The wind blows across the granite paving stones throwing leaves as it does so. The rain hit the coats of passers, turning there grey woollen coats into dark dripping mess.
The street glowed with the street lights bathing the houses in the glow of the open flames. It was a content scene until a woman ran down the street blood flowing from the side of her head, her bare feet cut up from running down the hill. Her maids dress stain with soot and drips of blood. hearing the screams a women dressed in a blue fine silk dress ran out to see.
"Peggy what happened to you" Cried the woman in the blue dress.
The maid who must have been Peggy bumbled " E-E-Elizabeth I has getting new sponges and he came up beside me and hit me with a rock. I ran but my shoes fell off. I ran back as fast as I could."
Elizabeth put her hand around Peggy , "Come inside and I will make sure you are not badly hurt my dear."
She steered her inside and a girl no older than 17 ran down and cried out "Peggy what happened "
Elizabeth requested of the girl " Adelaide tea please hot "
Adelaide with a proper manner said " yes my lady"
The tea steamed into the air leaving the smell of peppermint in its wake. Girls spoke words of comfort as salty tears streamed down Peggy face.
"I'm sorry I never saw his face," Peggy wailed " but he had lipstick on his neck and his tie was in his pocket because his shirt was open."
The door went slam and a mans voice echoed " Lizzie, i'm home sorry work dragged on so-," he stopped and looked at Peggy a panicked look in his eyes " hello Pegg-"
A scream pierced the air.
"Get him away from me." she yelled
Elizabeth looked at his neck a red smudge could be seen and his collar was open and a hickie was on his chest. She lost her mind and grabbed him by his shirt.
She yelled with a fire in her voice " What did you do to her Abe! you bastard! you-you--"
" You cheated on her. With the baker sheila," she said with an icy cold in her voice.
Elizabeth cried as Abe yelled "well i'll leave then if you cry anymore , pathetic"
the door slammed and a yell echoed in the night. horns blared, wheels screeched and a scream pierced the ears of all nearby.Elizabeth ran out to see Abe's broken body in the road torn and bleeding.
Adelaide ran out and knelt by his side
"dead" she declared a grimace in her voice.
"he deserved it," yelled a voice from the car that hit him ," the bastard got me pregnant".
"sheila what have you done," Elizabeth asked a choke in her voice.
"what i had to," she said she stepped out of the car mascara ran down her face , a wine bottle in hand,"he ruined my life. he raped me. got me pregnant and destroyed my relationship with my husband."
tears welled in her eyes and streamed down her face
the court room was dimly lit as judge Absalom resided over the court.
in an almost trance like state he said " may the defendant be call to the sta-"
his sentence was cut short by an officer running in yelling " dead she hung herself ," a body lay across his arms limp and a loose noose hung around her neck.
the funeral was a small event just the mistress of the house hold Elizabeth , Peggy the maid and Adelaide the house cook and nurse. rather than be buried they decided to burn him and throw the ashes into the river to rip apart the soul in eternal pain.
Adelaide spoke words of brutal love and destructive hate and the speech ended withe saying,"burn in hell and repent you bastard."
the rain fell on the ground as they poured the ashes into the river.the river runs like a snake carving its way into the town. London lay peacefully as if the horrible acts of the area had not happened.
" she did this. she killed him. but he raped her. that idiot," Elizabeth said an anger in her voice,"the stupid idiot just couldn't be satisfied with just me. then he got himself killed," her glass shattered cutting her hand open.
Adelaide rushed to her side and began to bandage the wound " miss Elizabeth you should talk to someone or you will just get more hurt. please my lady seek help if not for us for your own well being."
"i will Adelaide. thank you i don't know what i would without you," her eyes moving towards Peggy " or you Peggy,"her voice was soft, caring and loving.
" i shall call a house psychiatrist mi'lade," Peggy said with a sympathetic smile playing across her kind face.
the door rung at about 5:am. a tall man ,with hair like chocolate and eyes like malachite, stood in the doorway and said in a voice like a sad song " hello i'm ARtthe house psychiatrist."
"i'm Elizabeth. this is Adelaide the house nurse and cook. and Peggy the maid ," she said with a sweet smile.
the fire crackled like a sheet of amber a cheery warmth about it as they talked into the crisp night.
" so were are you from mr..," Elizabeth said trying to remember his surname.
" lockkey ,my lady and i am from Bristol," Arthur said with a slight smile on his face .
" Bristol a fine place to grow up i myself am Bristol educated even though my father hated that my mother sent me," Elizabeth said
