Chapter 1: Something New
Life hasn’t always been good but It’s looking up, Jackson and I have been dating for a solid 3 months now. I even spent Christmas with him and his mum.
It’s all been so surreal, every single day more perfect than the last, Who knew little old me could ever be truly happy? I didn’t.
I thought I’ve always been doomed from the start, not really having a real chance in life but I was wrong.
I haven’t talked to Lillian since that confrontation we had, I’ve made it my goal in life to avoid her at all costs. Tia and I go out and party a lot, when I’m not with Jackson I’m with her and it’s been great, Everything has been almost perfect.
Everything at home hasn’t changed though, I still have my depressive moments but I’m doing better. My mum and stepdad are still together and ignoring me most of the time, unless he wants to make life more difficult for me and I stay away from home as much as I possibly can.
So yeah, life really is looking up.
“Dawn?” Jackson pokes my side, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“Yeah?” I ask before kissing him on the cheek.
“You didn’t hear me, did you?” He sighs
I shake my head no, slightly blushing. “No, sorry. I was lost in thought.”
He laughs. “Weirdo.”
I shake my head, smiling. “What did you ask?”
A slight blush creeps onto his face, causing me to lift my brows in amusement. “There’s a dance coming up and I wanted to know if you want to come with me?”
I beam at him, barely able to contain my joy. “Of course I’ll go with you.”
His bright, crooked smile settles on his face as he pulls me closer to him. “I love you.”
I stand on the tips of my toes before placing a quick peck to his lips. “I love you too.”
He grabs my waist, pulling me closer before capturing my lips with his, holding me tight to his body.
I smile against his lips before returning it with the same amount of passion.
“Get a room you two!” I hear Tia call out, causing up to pull apart.
“Tia! Hey!” I smile at her.
Jackson rolls his eyes “Hey.”
“You’re gonna have to get used to me at some point Jackson.” She teases.
He sighs, looking down at me. “Only because I love this girl right here.”
Tia lets out a melodic laugh “You turned him into a love struck fool”
Me and Jackson both erupt into laughter with her.
My life really is great.
Tia has more than earned forgiveness, she was there when I needed someone and vice versa. She hasn’t even been mean once since we started hanging out again.
The bullying still happens sometimes but Tia and Jackson have been sticking up for me and Tia took down the burn book site but someone else created another and there’s nothing we can do about it but I ignore it most of the time.
“Dawn! get out of that head of yours” Tia playfully hits my arm.
“But it’s so nice!” I joke back, causing Jackson to shake his head and laugh.
“Two of a kind” He smiles.
“Our spot after school?” I ask him, smiling.
“Yeah” He says as he leans in and kisses my forehead.
“There’s a party this weekend, you two love birds coming?” She asks
we both nod and smile at each other before heading into the school, being separated for class.
At least my first two classes are with Tia.
“So have you guys done it yet?” Tia whispers.
“Done what?” I ask, confused by the whispered tone.
“You know...had sex?” She whispers again.
My eyes go wide and I stand still. “What?” I blurt out.
“So that’s a no.” She laughs.
“It’s definitely a no” I shake my head.
I’ve never done that before and I don’t think I’m ready.
She shrugs as we continue walking to our first class. “He’s been okay with that?
“Yeah, I think so. We don’t really talk about it” I admit.
“What?” She practically yells.
“Tia!” I say, trying to keep her quiet.
“Sorry, just took me by surprise is all.” She looks over at me and sighs. “Have you talked to Lillian?”
“No and I’m not going to.” I state, not wanting her to push it any further.
“Okay” She says. “So this weekend, it’s at the benson brothers house again. I’m looking forward to it, Daniel has been asking me to go.”
I smile at her. Daniel is her new plaything of the month. I hope she finds whatever it is she’s looking for, she deserves it. “Go with him then, I have Jackson so you won’t be ditching me.”
She smiles brightly before nodding and walking into the classroom.
Social studies, yay. I roll my eyes as I walk into the class and sit beside Tia in the back of the class.
Just a few more weeks and then summer is here.
