Mr. Eyes 1
Mr. Eyes
At 1:50, I stepped into the upstairs bathroom of my old Victorian house. I brought all the supplies that I would need- a handheld timer and a needle- into the bathroom. My bathroom was already equipped with a mirror, and I made sure the bathtub was in functioning order the day before. Everything was set for his arrival. I waited. Four minutes until two o’clock, when the fun would begin.
At precisely two a.m., I set the timer for two minutes. I stared wide into the mirror, keeping my eyes open as wide as I could, resisting the urge to blink. Blinking would cause in a failure of the ritual.
Bleep, Bleep! The timer went off, and I was finally allowed to blink. I blinked a few times, reaching over to turn the faucet on the tub. In order to properly perform the ritual, I had to fill the tub to its maximum capacity.
A loud crash startled me, and I jumped higher than a rabbit. I looked out the window and was relieved, and also kind of annoyed, to see that it was a deer that had been unfortunate enough to get its head stuck in my picket fence.
Well, too late to turn back now, I thought. As much as I wanted to go and help the poor animal, I was too afraid to turn back after starting the ritual. I had heard stories of terrible things that had happened to people who turned back in the middle of a ritual, and I didn’t want to become one of those sob stories you hear on the news. No way.
A cool feeling swept up my leg, and I looked down. Shit! The water had spilled over the edge of the tub, and I was standing in a puddle of water. I didn’t have time to clean it up, so I just turned off the faucet and continued on with the ritual, scared of not completing it in time.
I grabbed the needle from the countertop, and held my left hand over the pool of water, careful not to touch the water. I pricked the tip of my pointer finger and let a drop of my blood drip into the water. It seems that every ritual seems to need blood. So, I always use the same finger.
I set my timer for two minutes and stared deep into the water. I wasn’t allowed to blink this time, either, and had to keep them open as wide as I could. I felt like I looked stupid, like a large-eyed lemur. My eyes burned terribly, but I was able to resist by thinking of all the terrible things that might happen if I didn’t keep my eyes open.
Finally, after what seemed like an hour, the timer beeped. I waited, and slowly, the water in the tub began to bubble slowly. I looked away as soon as I noticed it, and I kept my eyes averted until the bubbling stopped. I felt nauseous, but excited at the same time, the same rush that came whenever I did one of these summonings.
When the water ceased bubbling, I looked back at the tub. There, in the water, was the image of a man. I smiled a bit to myself. Good, I thought. Mr. Eyes has decided to play.
I pulled the plug to the drain and watched the water swirl down. I shattered the mirror that I had used using a can of Febreze that had been resting on top of the toilet lid. I carefully picked up the glass and discarded it into the trash can. I took out the bag and brought it outside to burn.
I doused the bag in a bit of gasoline and lit it up with a match that was in my pocket. I always have a pack of those, just I case I need to dispose of, light, or ward off something…or someone.
As soon as I burned the pieces, I felt something. Not physically, anyway, but I felt his presence. I knew he was there. He had decided to join me.
I was really, really tired. I couldn’t sleep, and I was running on caffeine. And it was really uncomfortable, having him constantly watching me. He was waiting, waiting for me to fall asleep, so he could take his prize.
