Chapter 1

"How about you give me those delicious cupcakes and your number?"

She enjoyed cooking in general, but when she made savory dishes, it was primarily for the sake of eating them. She loved eating what she baked too, but her desire to do it was often less motivated by the result than by the process itself. In short, she loved the baking part of baking, not just the eating.

The slow process of measuring, sifting, and stirring; waiting as the dough rises in the oven and the house becomes saturated with the scent of butter and flour and chocolate; pulling the pans out of the oven and finding the dough transformed into something golden and perfect. And also the part where she stuffed her face with warm gooey cookies. That part admittedly, wasn't terrible.

For her, baking was more than a simple means to an end- it was a way of life.

Her name was Donatella. Donatella Ruby West, the only daughter of Marcus Tyler West and Valerie Tanya West. She was an only child, so being pampered was certainly not out of question. In fact, call it tradition. But even though she was pampered, she loved being independent. She was a very ambitious 20 year-old lady, and even though she found life boring, she loved to live the moments. After all, life was short.

Donatella worked in a bakery owned by her mother's bestfriend, Constance Norway. Connie in short. There, she worked as a baker, baking the most amazing cupcakes in town. Everybody loved the young baker, constantly tipping her, every time they came around the bakery. Not only did she have the looks, but she was kind at heart.

Donatella looked at the time on the wall clock. Her time to close the bakery had reached. She stripped off her apron and folded it neatly in her personal cabinet. Taking her time in getting everything ready for tomorrow, she started by sweeping off the flour on the kitchen floor. A few minutes had barely passed when the bakery's bell rang, signaling a customer.

A tall and handsome Adonis of a man made his way inside the bakery, his steps radiating power. Donatella watched him with curiosity. He wasn't a male model, but he should have been. The lush, mother lode-gold hair he groomed so carefully had a rippling quality, a sign of his rude health.

The aquiline nose he sported complemented his prominent cheekbones that looked as if they sculpted and pared to perfection. Handsome in an understated way, his basalt jaw and spartan shoulders spoke of strength. He possessed a latent, leonine power and walked with purpose and authority. With eyes as bright and spellbinding as lode stars, she bet they bewitched all those who fell under his steady gaze. They were a- sparkle with mirth and shone like two eternity-blue jewels enwrought in snow.

For a moment, she forgot how to breathe. The man in front of him was too perfect to be real.

Donatella cleared her fuzzy mind and kept on her cheerful smile. "Hi, how may I help you?"

The man in front of her shot her his own beautiful smile as he answered. "How about you give me those delicious cupcakes and your number?"

Heat creeped on her cheeks as she cleared her throat and answered the gorgeous stranger. "I'm sorry, I don't give my number to strangers. Anyway, here are your cupcakes. Enjoy and come back again. I'm closing now."

"Oh, I certainly will. I'm Throne Luka Riviera, pleased to meet you."

He offered his hand for a handshake which she accepted willingly. As their skins came into contact, Donatella felt the sparks and fire ignite between them. She let go of his hand instantly, as a shiver ran down her spine.

"Donatella Ruby West. The pleasure is all mine."

Throne raked his hair with his fingers, a look of nervousness on his face. "Uhh- about the number?"

She blushed. "Right. Help me with your phone."

Throne handed it to her, as he watched her in amazement. She had a sculped figure which was twine-thin. Her waist was tapered and she had a burnished complexion. A pair of arched eyebrows looked down on sweeping eyelashes. Her delicate ears framed a button nose. A set of dazzling, angel-white teeth gleamed as she blew gently on her carmine-red fingernails. It was a pleasure to see her flowing, moon shadow-black hair. Her enticing, constellation-blue eyes gazed at him over her puffy, heart shaped lips. She was indeed, beautiful. No one could compare to her.

The only sound that kept chanting in his head was from his wolf. It yelped, Mate Mate Mate!

"I better close the shop now. We'll talk later?" She asked.

"Count on it. It's very dark though. I'll escort you home."

Donatella's heart started beating vigorously. He wanted to escort her home? Wasn't that a little bit too fast? For all she knew, he could be a serial killer. Although he seemed like a nice guy, the saying of 'never judge a book by its cover' clouded her judgement.

"I'm not an axe murderer or something close to that. Just trust me, will you?" Throne pleaded.

Donatella found herself nodding in agreement. There was just something about the man standing in front of her, that seemed to make her feel powerless. Maybe it was his voice, or face. Maybe it was how sexy he looked. YUMMY. She just couldn't resist him. Her mind was going- what was it they called it? Bananas. Yes, her mind and heart were going bananas. Who was this man? She questioned, inside her head.

Throne, however, had followed his mate's scent as he emerged from the woods. He had been going for a run when the enticing mixture of cupcakes filled his nose. Of course he knew what it meant.

Making sure that she had locked the shop and the security locks were activated, she made her way towards Throne.

"Let's go?" She asked.

"Lead the way, my little Dona."

Her heart skipped a bit at the mention of the nickname. No one had ever called her Dona. Everyone else preferred Ella. In fact, that's what everyone called her. She wondered why she never thought of that name before- the name Dona. It sounded better than Ella. But it sounded more perfect when it rolled off Throne's tongue. She could just have an orgasm because of his voice.

On the other side, Throne was trying to keep his wolf at ease. His wolf wouldn't stop chanting his mate's name. Now that they had both found her, it would be inevitably wrong to ignore her existence. His wolf wanted to mark his mate, at least to let everyone know who she belonged to. But there was one major problem: she was human. Donatella didn't have an idea of who Throne was. She didn't know of his kind.

But that wouldn't stop him, albeit. He was going to do everything to keep her. Donatella Ruby West was his. His little Dona, belonged to no one but him. No man was allowed to touch her, or talk to her. He'd make sure of it. After all, he was an Alpha. He had a lot of power and strength. Human boys were nothing compared to him.

After escorting his mate and knowing where she dwelt, he returned to the pack house, where he lived. He had a peaceful night, though not as peaceful as the feeling of not having his mate in his arms.

Donatella had a good night too, although questions about who Throne was, invaded her mind. Nevertheless, all was well.
