Prologue

I like to think that there is somebody for everybody, ya know? Like somewhere in the world, our own personal little soulmate is just waiting to meet us. For me, my other half was forever and always...Kai. I met Kai when we were both three. Co-ed soccer for preschoolers just has a way of bringing people together, I guess. Of course, I had never noticed Carlos until he practically hurled a ball straight towards my face. Unsurprisingly, the story of how I met him also doubles as the story of how I got my first and only black eye. For the longest time, Kai and I were practically inseparable. The bestest of friends, the most dynamic of duos, if you will. When I started getting bullied by the other kids in school, Kai always stood up for me. Kai was outspoken because I was quiet, friendly because I was shy, he was everything I couldn’t be. He was always there for me no matter the circumstance, until he suddenly he wasn’t.

Out of nowhere in seventh grade, Kai moved away. All of a sudden this boy that I relied on for practically my whole life to always be there for me was just… gone. Without any trace. The day that he left is also doubles as the first time he ever broke my heart.

There was a lot of doubles when it came to Kai and I. We met twice, fell in love twice, and he broke my heart twice. The second and first times were never all that different either if you think about it. Of course, I’m not here to tell you about those times, but rather, all the time in between our doubles. I’m here to tell you about Kai, my Kai. I’m here to tell you about how he changed my life forever. With Kai, I found my redamancy.
