Chapter 1
Cheap , tacky oversized Hawaiin shirts...the only creature with enough power to make Andrew wear that can only be his mother. To his mother it is conciderred as neat and ‘big boy clothes’; to the rest of the people in his school...
it is something only the poor with ‘cheap’ moms would wear. And that is something his mother is not.
“Mom, do I really need to wear this one?” Andrew asked, gesturing to his newest shirt from the dollar store. It was the only place where his mom could afford their clothes, he wasn’t ungrateful...he just didn’t like walking around like a bright orange glowstick with red and green fish imprints on it.
At this point, any other hawaiin shirt would do, even a pink one with green fish and blue hearts. Just like the one he had in his closet...
“Please mom, I’d much rather prefer the pink one.” He tried but it was no use as Andrew’s mother glowered at him. “Oh, come on Boo. The one you’re wearing right now is perfect. Or are you trying to impress a girl at school?”
Yeah, right. What kind of sane girl would want to date me? A six-foot walking glowstick...Talk about the next Edward Collin.
Andrew’s mom said with a scowl, she wouldn’t have him dating until he turned nineteen.
She wouldn’t even let him touch a girl, (not that he could. No girl ever walks within a meter’s radius of him due to his ‘beautiful’ attire.) wether it’d be her hand or not, he had to wait until he was married.
If not, it was considered as ‘unholy’.
Andrew didn’t even try to further argument, he wasn’t gonna win. So instead ,he greeted his mother with a kiss to her cheek. “I’m not trying to impress a girl at school, ma. Dont worry.”
With that, he made a run for the street car at St. Charles that stopped at Loyla. The street car was two blocks away from his rundown condo at the edge of Bourbon street.
He made it just in time as the car was about to drive off. With an awkward smile at the irritated driver, Andrew entered the car.
As soon as he reached Loyla he went on his almost daily run of six to seven blocks to his school. Yeah...kept him fit, but also sweaty.
Another reason for girls to hate him.
Once he reached the large building, Andrew stopped in his tracks, inspecting every crivice outside the brick building. It feels as though something abnormal lies within it. Wich was a sensation Andrew always felt whenever he was at close proximity of the school.
Instinct?
Imagination?
He did not know.
---
St. Richards high...
Place of nightmares and dislexia -hence the wrongly placed class numbers. Ignoring the laughs, snickers and comments about his ugly choice of clothing, Andrew started for the large double doors of the eerie, red-brick building.
He was about to enter the school grounds when he was roughly shoved from behind. Without needing to look back, he already knew who it was.
Stone...
Ignoring the attack from behind,he kept walking. Halfway into the builidng, he was roughly pulled back as Stone grabbed hold of his bag. Almost falling, he readied himself for another attack from his enemy.
Almost as tall as Andrew, Stone had brown eyes and dirty blonde hair. To the normall passerby, he’d look like the average, rich Urban boy next door, but he wasn’t.
He was a brainless moron that belittled others to feel powerful and better about himself.
“Nice clothes...Glowstick.” The insults, Andrew can take. The shoves, also. But there was one thing he could not...
Clenching his hands into tight fists, Andrew turned around to face Stone.
“You know, Stone. I may walk around as a six foot glowstick, but at least my parents didn’t hate me enough to name me after my last braincell.”
Andrew could’ve sworn he saw smoke fuming out of Stone’s ears. Serves him right fot insulting his choice -more like his mlther’s- of clothing.
Turning around, happy that he has gotten the jock to shut up, Andrew was about to leave when Stone spoke, “Before you go, Drooby. I just want to say your mom visited my dad last night during her shift... He says she has a nice ass...saw it for myself. Not as good as most, bu-”
That was the one thing he could not take, nobody insults or talks trash about his saintly mother.
Without thinking, Andrew threw his fist at Stone, hitting him square on the jaw. The punch was so hard that Stone fell flat on his backside.
He stood over the jock, staring him in the eyes as he spoke in a low, dangerous voice that was not his. “You do not insult my mother.” The voice sounded gravely, almost demonic.
Turning around, he was about to walk off to his locker when the principal came running toward him with a smug smile playing on his lips.
Ah, sweet ole’ Richard Head. Also known as dickhead ,and boy did he hate Andrew. Since he came into the school he has been searching for reasons to get Andrew kicked out of his school.
Why?
Perhaps because he is aware of the darkness that lies hidden and locked away in Andrew’s heart?
Or is it because the reason’s much more personal...in a way connected to the past?
There is no way of knowing.
“My office, now.” Mr. Head growled, as he walked past Andrew, roughly brushing his shoulder against him ,the motion causing Andrew to slightly stagger back. Blatantly, without needing to be asked, he followed the principal to his office.
Please don’t call my mom. He silently prayed in his head. His mother did not need the extra stress, she already has to balance two different jobs and doesn’t get any sleep at night.
Violence is never a solution to any problem. Instead, it only makes matters worse.
The words Andrew’s mom forced into his head from birth played through his mind as he made the long walk to the office.
Violence may never be the key, but atleast I did it for the right reason...
Hey ya’ll ,please , do let me know if you spot any spelling mistakes and so forth. I know...it’s a little rough but the chapter hasn’t been edited yet.
