Beginning

Jacquline just moved into a new home that was once known to house a great author who would write the most wonderful, terrifying, horror stories of it’s time. But this wasn’t why Jacquline moved to the house. It was the exact opposite to be exact. The house had a rather charm to it that attracted Jacquline to it. She was thrilled when she got the news the house was hers. Before she was able to move into the house, something made her do some research about the author who once lived there. There was one thing about the author that stuck with her. It was because for the fact that the author wrote about those strange creatures that would lurk in the shadows. It was the fact that the author had vanished in thin air to never be seen again. As Jacquline was closing her laptop after doing her research on the known author, all she could think about was how wonderful the fireplace was at the place.

Some people might think it is strange that someone could love a fireplace so much; especially, of that design. Most people would like a modern fireplace with a big rock theme. Something of the new age they would say. Jacquline likes the past and what the past means to the present. Fireplace at her new home is of the 1930’s style equipped with a four foot mantel, three tier cracked, red and orange brick, and a large opening for a fire. Ventilation has been recently cleaned and updated with the fireplace fully stocked with the local firewood for a thank you gift for buying their house. At first Jacquline that it was odd that they would fill the fireplace with wood as a thank you. The house wasn’t on the market for very long; so, she never understood why the previous owners were so grateful until one day.

Until the day when she decided that she was going to start a fire on a nice crisp fall day. Everything was going as planned. Nothing was wrong until she started to take out the large pile of wood that was placed there when she moved in three weeks before. With the half of the wood out of the fireplace, Jacquline remembered that she forgot to get something to start the fire with when something strange happened. While she was busy in the kitchen finding her fire starter, something that has been rearranging the firewood in the living room. When Jacquline came back, it wasn’t the way she had it before. Half of the pile she had lazily stacked by the fireplace no longer was in a messy pile but was stacked neatly in the far right corner away from the fireplace.

Firewood being neatly stacked in the corner wasn’t the only thing that was strange about the room. The throw rug that was supposed to be laying in front of the fireplace was rolled up and moved to the entry hallway by the front door with a note saying try again. Spooked, Jacquline went upstairs to take a quick cold bath to wake up from this nightmare she is starting to have. Only conclusion she came up with was that she has been working hard getting the house ready to be exactly the way she would like and has overworked her brain. That she has forgotten simple tasks like fixing the pile of firewood to stop herself from tripping over later on.
