Amelia’s POV (Raelynn’s Mother) 3 Years Before Raelynn’s Birth

“Come on Ashton!” I mind linked to Ashton as I ran through the woods, my paws hitting the ground with a soft thud. I was currently teaching my 2 year old son how to hunt. He’s my little bundle of joy, always excited to learn new things involving the pack. My mate and I believe he will be a great heir to the pack, but we want another child, but we know it could complicate things.

Ashton could get jealous of the competition. Recently, the elders of the werewolf community passed a new law. Now, if an alpha couple gives birth to more than one heir, within 5 1/2 years of each other, the only way for the oldest to become the next alpha would be if they were a more responsible and stronger wolf to be an alpha. The way the pack would decide who was more fit to be alpha was to see which wolf had the best personality, strength, and responsibility. Whatever sibling was more fit to be alpha would get the title, not the oldest unless the oldest proved to be the better chosen leader.

The council thought this system would work better instead of the oldest automatically becoming the alpha of the pack after many packs had suffered under a bad leadership due to the oldest child received the title. So they made the law, if there were siblings who were born within 5 1/2 years of each other, they would be in competition to receive the title to be the next alpha.

With this in mind, we want to wait till after the 5 years before we give birth to another pup. We thought this would fit better since Ashton wouldn’t fear losing ownership of the title. I wanted another pup as soon as possible, but I am worried about what could happen if I did have another one at this point in time.

Liam, my mate and Ashton’s father always spoke highly of the alpha position, he hyped Ashton up every night. They would spend the last hour before bed talking about how Ashton would grow up to be alpha and take over his pack when he turned 19. Ashton always talked about how he would become alpha just like his father, and I know if we have another child, Ashton will feel threatened by them.

I snapped out of my thoughts as I felt someone brush against me, I glanced to my left seeing a pure black wolf, Liam, smiling I nudged him with my snout, slowly coming to a stop.

“Where have you been?” I mind linked to Liam as I licked his neck showing affection in our wolf form. I sat down, watching as Ashton ran up to us, he was small compared to us, he is only two years old, he was small and slim, his fur coat was gray with a spot of black on his neck and nose. He came to a stop, but tumbled over and rolled, landing on his back looking up at us,

“Training the newest warriors, some of the pups have come of age to start training.” Liam mind linked to me, I glanced up at him with a small nod, before looking at our pup. I stood up, I grabbed Ash by his nap and put him right side up. He shook his fur off, before running around us all excitedly.

“Dad! Did you see me running? I’ve gotten so fast!” Ashton openly mind linked, allowing Liam and me to hear him. I swiped my paw at him, wrapping it around his torso and pulling him to me, I started to lick him clean, giving him his bath.

“I saw you bud, I’m proud of you little man! Just you wait, one day you’ll be just as fast as your mom and me, and you’ll be leading your pack on their annual pack hunt as their alpha.” Liam told him as he sat down watching Ash and me while Ash tried wiggling out of my grasp.

“Mom!” Ash whined, whimpering. “Stop, this is embarrassing, I can clean myself, you know!” He groaned, as he finally squeezed himself out of my paws.

“Yes, but you can’t clean everywhere on that small body of yours,” I stated as I reached for him again, Liam just sat there shaking his head

Ash licked his leg a few times before looking at me, “See! I can do it!” He told me with a wolfy grin, I lightly shook my head at him.

“Do you really think i’ll be the alpha dad?” Ashton looked up at him with adoration.

“You know how the law works bud, as long as your the only child, you will be, but if you have another sibling before you’re five and a half, then its not up to us, its up to the pack and who they think is a better wolf to be alpha.” Liam told him in a soft tone, Ashton looked up at him nodding.

“Yeah I know, but I am strong, and I have no other siblings, I won’t have any, I’ll be alpha, I know I will be!” Ashton told us eagerly, I just looked at Liam to find him looking at me. Ashton didn’t understand as much as we wish he did, he was only two. Liam turned back to Liam, before nodding his head.

“Come on, let’s go back to the pack.” Liam announced, agreeing I stood up, shaking off my fur before walking with my family back to the pack camp.

This is part one, the first 3/4 chapters are in the past, this is showing a bit of back story about Ashton, her brother, and her mom and dad, its just my way of explaining some things about the werewolf community in my book since i'm making it a bit different than normal werewolf books, to make mine stand out more.

In the next few chapters it will fast forward to Raelynn in the present time when shes currently 18 and thats where the full story continues from, the only time we will go back to the past is during nightmares and memories of Raelynn's time from when shes with the Rogue Pack, to now, which will contain abuse and harsh training since the Rogue Pack trains the pups harshly to make them submit to them and to control them.
