Goodbye Edward, Hello Jacob

Summary

I'd never given much thought to how I would die. But dying in the place of someone I love seems like a good way to go. So I can't bring myself to regret the decision to leave home. I would miss Phoenix. I'd miss the heat. I'll even miss the wet cold weather of Forks. I would miss my loving, erratic, harebrained mother. And her new husband. I would miss Charlie and our Thursday nights at the diner. I would even miss them. The ones I thought of as family. The family that left me behind. I guess this is now goodbye.

We Meet Again

Quick Note (QN): This chapter will be switching between 3rd person and 1st person narrative. I am sorry.

Narrator/ Bella’s POV:

“Edward. You’re here...”

He’s just standing there. Bella hurries towards him but slows when she sees his cold, distant face. What is going on?

“Walk with me?” Edward said, and then slowly takes her hand and guide her towards the woods... He stops near a fallen tree and releases Bella’s hand. He has his back turned towards her for a few seconds before he turns around and speaks...

“We need to leave Forks.”

“What? Why?” I can’t help but immediately think of all the worst possibilities

“It’s time. Carlisle’s supposed to be ten years older than he looks; people will start noticing” Lie.

“But... when?”

“Now. We’re leaving now.”

Bella reels, trying to take this in. Finally--

“I’ll have to think of something to tell Charlie, but I think I can be ready...” Edward interrupts.

“Not you. Us.”

Stunned is the word to describe Bella’s reaction... The only thing she can think of is...

“What? No. Edward happened with Jasper... That. That was nothing... Wh...”

“Nothing compared to what could happen. You don’t belong in my world” Since the conversation begun, this was the one thing Edward said with confidence. Something he knew was true.

“... I belong with you”

“You don’t...” Lie.

“I’m coming.” Bella cuts him off with so much authority, it surprises not only herself but Edward as well...

“I don’t want you to come!” Lie.

That stung. A slap would’ve been less painful...

“You-You don’t... want me.” The hidden insecurities suddenly flood over her head like a tidal wave from the reservation.

“No.” Lie.

She takes a few steps back as if he had just struck her. Trying to understand her insecurities. her doubts. his words. Bella has been complimented and described as intelligent but for once, she believes that she is truly ignorant.

“I’d like to ask for one favor though...”
