Chapter 1
“Alright everyone pair up. You will be doing one on one combat. Young wolves will sit, watch and learn today. Tomorrow you will join in" Jason the beta of the pack, yells out. All the younger wolves sit down while the experienced wolves pair up for the one on one combat training. Pups usually are kept away from training so they can have a care free childhood. “I don’t understand why we have to sit out. Fighting isn’t that hard” I hear one of the young ones say.
‘Here we go, another pup with a huge ego. Thinking he’s all that’ I think to myself.
Beta Jason, now irritated stands in front of the wolf with his arms crossed, glaring at the young one. “What was that?” He says in a firm tone.
“I don’t get why we can’t join in. It’s not like fighting is hard. We do it all the time. I bet I could take any one of these wolves and win. Other than you beta sir.” He says looking down at the end, knowing full well he doesn’t want to go against the beta.
" Is that so. You think you’re all big and bad now do ya. What you pups are used to is playing what you call fighting is nothing more than a tickle fight in comparison but be my guest if you think you can take one of these wolves I won’t stop you.” Beta Jason says with a mincing smile now on his face at the end.
“STARLIGHT!” Beta Jason yells my name. “Come up here”
‘Great now I’m being drugged into this. I’ll do my best to not hurt the poor guy to much’ I walk past the others to the front some frozen in place thinking the worst. “Don’t hurt him too much” I hear someone say as I pass them.
Now standing next to Beta Jason, the young wolf looks confused. “If you’re so confident that you can beat anyone, you won’t have a problem going against Starlight here” he says gesturing his hand in my direction.
His reaction is understandable I tend to stay away from the rest of the pack besides the warriors. Those that don’t have mates tend to be more distant from the rest of the pack. Most live in the pack house but a lot of the warriors including myself live in small houses outside the main area so we are closer to the borders. Makes it easier to get there faster. I also usually cook at home so I don’t go to the pack house very often.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, she’s a girl, there isn’t much to fight. Stop making fun of me and give me a real fight” The wolf says all dramatic.‘That’s it. That is where he crosses the line. How dare he judge me for me being a female.’
“What afraid to be beaten by a girl” I say now glaring at him
“What! I’m not afraid of no girl!” Now pissed the young wolf steps forward a step. Beta Jason, now smirking; walks over by me.
“Good so you shouldn’t have a problem fighting Starlight.” He puts his hand on my shoulder and says ” Just try not to kill him Star, okay” before walking away.
Nodding my head to his words I take a fighting stance. “Please shouldn’t you be telling me not to kill her” the young wolf yells.
“Begin” Beta Jason yells. Not a second after the wolf runs at me. Jumping to the side while doing a handspring, I easily avoid him. Which I can see angered him. A few mins of me dodging him I hear a growl come from him. “Stop dodging just face me already, you bitch! God this is why females shouldn’t fight, the only thing they are good for is sex and raising the pups.” I freeze in my tracks now very pissed at his comment. “Now you’ve done it kid” one of the wolves yell at him.
“What the fuck did you just say you brat” I say my voice low and pissed tone. He smiles at this knowing he got to me.
“You heard me females are only good for two things, sex and raising pups” he says in a cocky tone with a huge grin on his face. “Star try to stay calm hes just a kid remember” I hear someone yell, not really paying attention to who did. It normally take a lot to get under my fur but that way of thinking dose instantly.
“Fine you want me to face you so be it, but remember you asked for it I’m not going to be held responsible for your injuries” I say a bit of my voice mixed with my wolfs. This sort of thing gets to her as well.
“What ar..” before he can even finish, I’m in front of him in a second. My hand around to his back while I drove my knee onto his stomach. The impact causes him to cough up a mix of blood and sorts.
The impact sends him about 5 feet into the air in that split second I spin around and slam my leg down on his back. Causing him to slam front first into the ground smashing the ground around him from the impact. Barely conscious now I grab the back of his shirt so he’s looking at me.
“#1 Don’t and I mean DON’T ever look down upon the way our alpha and beta train us.
#2 DON’T ever underestimate your opponent
And #3 DON’T EVER LOOK DOWN ON FEMALES, you were brought to this world by a female.” I say in a firm tone before letting him fall back to the ground.
“Beta Jason I will excuse myself for now” I say walking away. His hand now rubbing the back of his neck sighs. “Billy, Gabe take him to the infirmary.

Now too long of leaving training I run into Luna Marie. “Starlight” she says smiling at me. “Luna” I say bowing my head in respect. “Beta Jason mind linked me and told me what happened.” ‘Great, now I’m gonna get a lecture’ I think to myself. “I understand you were mad but you should have held back more than what you did. He was a young pup and not very bright” she says reaching her hand to my shoulder.
“I’m sorry Luna but when he said that about females I stopped thinking” I said looking down ashamed knowing shes right, it doesn’t help that some families still think that way even though things have changed since the past.
“Well I can see you regret how you handled it, but you need to remember you’re stronger than the normal wolves. Anyway I came to get you, alpha and I need to talk to you.” She says smiling at me.
’I wonder what they need to talk to us about?′ my wolf (Melody) says to me. ‘I have no idea’ I reply. Arriving at the alpha’s office Luna knocks on the door, opening it when given permission to enter.
“Starlight, there you are” Alpha Mike says with a smile, after we enter and close the door behind us. “Alpha, I heard you needed to talk to me” I say bowing my head.
“Yea, Starlight as you know every 10 years there is a gathering or a ball as it is called for the young wolves to find their mates. It has been 10 years and I would like you to go” he says
“But” before i can say anything else he holds his hand up to stop me. “I know very well you don’t think you have a mate, however I want to to give it a chance. Having a mate is the best thing to have. The ball will be in a few days. We will be leaving tomorrow morning and arriving tomorrow night the ball will be the day after. So go home and pack. We will see you in the morning and this is an order from your Alpha.” He says the last in a commanding tone. ’Dose he think that his alpha voice will work on us’ my wolf say starkly.
“yes sir” I reply, bowing my head and leave his office, heading to my home at the edge of the pack living area and start packing then head to bed for the morning, the whole time my wolf was a little restless for some reason.
