Maye

Sitting on the roof of one of the village houses, Maye found herself relishing in the feeling of the sun in her face. A cool breeze blew off the water, lightly blowing her dark brown hair.

The roof Maye sat on had a view of the harbour, of all the tall sailboats and schooners docked, the temptation to travel to a far away land tempting her. She never liked the village she lived in, it was too full of bad memories, some that still haunt her, and what she was supposed to be.

In short she despised this town.

The door of the house below her opened and a man walked out, he seemed to be middle aged, but Maye wasn't able to get a good look at him from atop the roof.

He turned around and looked up, directly at Maye.

"Hey you! Get off my roof!" He exclaimed.

Maye sighed and rolled her eyes, but started her descend from the roof none the less. Not like I wasn't enjoying the peace and quiet or anything. She thought as she walked past the man as she headed towards the village square.

Nothing happened on her way to the square. She saw the odd child running around, but nothing overly interesting.

Mainly because the square was where everything happened, from festivals to gatherings, or just teens partying. None the less it was always the place to be.

Eventually Maye made it to the square and started walking around keeping her hands in the pockets of her trousers. She would look at the stuff she couldn't afford, and the odd time pickpocket the unexpecting person. It was how her days normally went, no matter the activity in the square.

Maye looked around once more. She saw many couples, young and old, multiple times, but that wasn't what surprised her.

She looked towards the edges of the square, at all the exits and entrances, and noticed something that was all the same.

She looked towards the roof tops of the shops and town homes. She made sure she looked at all of them.

Then she saw the pattern.

Now it wasn't unusual to see what she saw, but just the sheer bulk of how many there where.

The guards where everywhere.

And they were looking for her.

Mayes heart was racing, and her hands where shaking, this is not normal. She thought. But I have to stay calm, look for a way out.

Maye scanned the square again, trying to hide how teriffied she was. The guards hadn't noticed anything, yet, but that didn't calm her down.

They still have a chance to notice me, she thought as she made her way through the croud, she bumped into many people her state of panic blocking out their protests.

Just a couple more steps.

Maye took a couple deep breaths, just make it to the street, any street then you can make a break for it. She thought, using those words as encourage ment to make it the rest of the way.

She could see the street just ahead of her, it was close, that's for sure, but her senses didn't realise something was wrong.

Behind her guards were starting to creep towards her, they saw her frantically trying to get away, and while Maye was lost deep in her own mind, the closest guards were almost at arm's length from her.

Almost.

There-

Maye's arms were grabbed and she was pulled back roughly.

"Maye Feroniza, you're coming with us." A guard exclaimed, and those where the last words she heard before she passed out.
