Odd Confrontation

Bette and Alice are oddly sitting across from each other at the table, waiting for Shane, Dani, and Sophie. Bette tries to brush Alice away by not looking at her, which does not work, as Alice stares her down.

“I hope you’re proud of yourself, seriously,” Alice says.

Bette slowly glances up from drinking her latte at Alice, then looks back down, looking guilty. She tries not to cry, brushing her hair away from her face. “What do you want me to say? Huh? What can I say?”

“How about the truth,” Alice mutters, slumping back in her seat, sipping her mimosa. “Are you going to tell her?”

Bette sighs, sitting up in her chair as she picks her nails.

“Hey, guys,” Sophie says with excitement in her voice, wearing a white floral blouse with blue jeans, and her hair in a bun. “What’s going on?” She looks at both Beth and Alice. “Something is a little off with you two,” she adds.

Alice and Bette look at each other, while Sophie observes. Alice quickly rolls her eyes at Bette. “Well, I don’t know, Sophie. Do you see anything odd Bette,” Alice says to Bette, being sarcastic.

Bette doesn’t say a word and sips her latte. She’s already annoyed with Alice’s antics.

Sophie gradually takes a seat next to Alice, as the waiter approaches, and orders a glass of wine. “What a party last night. I had so much fun, and the DJ was great,” she says. “What happened with you guys,” she asks.

“Well, I went home a little after two, but on my way out, I saw a little somebody making out with someone that she shouldn’t be making out with. Hmm. I wonder what they have done after they left the party.”

“Alice!” Bette shouts, slamming her hands on the table. “Stop, please.”

“Wait, stop what? What’s going on?” Sophie asks.

Alice looks up. “Hey, guys!” she shouts.

In comes Shane and Dani. They’re holding hands. Shane is wearing a white v-neck shirt with plaid pants, and Dani is wearing a black tank top with blue jeans.

Shane sits down next to Bette, and Dani quickly sits right next to Shane, exchanging a kiss. “What’s going on guys?” Shane asks.

Everyone is quiet, including Sophie and Dani, as they all are looking at each other.

Shane looks around at everyone, as the waiter walks over. “I would like a Vodka with cranberry and a -.”

“I’ll have a Sangria,” Dani adds.

“Anything else?” the waiter asks. They both nod their heads, and the waiter walks away.

Shane pauses and stares at everyone once again. “What is going on? Why is everybody so quiet?”

Sophie and Alice look at Bette, as Bette covers her face with shame, peeking at Dani. Shane notices. “What? Bette, why are you staring at Dani?”

Bette shakes her head. “Oh my god,” she mutters. “I can’t.”

“You can’t what?” Shane asks Bette. Shane is confused, staring at Bette.

“For christ sake Bette. Tell her the truth already,” Alice implies.

“Alice!” Bette shouts again, looking at Shane and Dani.

“Bette, what is it?” Dani asks.

“You know what happened, Dani.”

Dani looks over at Shane, confused then back at Bette. “No, I don’t. What are you talking about?”

Bette takes a deep breath. “Alright, if she’s not going to say it, I will.”

“Say what Bette? What the hell are you talking about?”

“Say it!” Shane shouts.

Bette looks at everyone. “Dani and I had sex last night.”

Sophie is shocked, spitting out her drink. Everyone is silent, looking at each other.

“What!” both Shane and Dani shout, as the waiter approaches with their drinks. “What are you talking about? We did not have sex last night or any other night,” Dani states, sipping her Sangria and looks at Shane.

Shane has no words, staring at Bette and Dani. “What the hell are you talking about? How did you have sex with Dani?”

Bette stares at Alice, who’s shaking her head. “I don’t know. I was drunk, dancing on the dance floor, and Dani approached me. We started dancing, and one thing led to another we kissed. After that, from what I remember, we left the party, went to my place, and you know the rest.”

Sophie is in disbelief, chugging the rest of her wine and signaling the waiter for another. She looks at everyone, not knowing what to say, while Shane and Dani look at each other, still confused.

“Bette, what the fuck are you talking about? You did not have sex with Dani.”

Alice chugs the rest of her drink.“Yes, she did. I saw them kiss and left the party,” she announces.

“No, she didn’t, Alice. She did not have sex with Dani. Gosh, you guys are both delusional right now.”

All eyes look at Shane, surprised. Especially Bette’s. “What do you mean I didn’t?” we went to my place, made out and had sex.”

“No, you didn’t, Bette.

“Yes, we did. Dani, tell her the truth.”

Dani shakes her head. “Bette, you’re losing it,” Dani mutters, finishing her drink.

Frustrated by the situation, Bette bangs her hands on the table. She wants to shout but holds her composure. “If she wasn’t with me, who was with then?”

“She was with me, Bette.”

Everyone is quiet, keeping to themselves. Bette is confused. “Wait a minute, what?” How was she with you?”

“I received a call from my dad. It was important, so I told Shane that we had to leave.”

Shane nods her head agreeing.

“Shit,” Alice mutters. ” This whole time, that was someone else. I swear, whoever that was looked just like you, Dani.”

Bette looks around to everyone confused and still in disbelieve, biting her lip as she struggles to hold on to her latte. “Who the fuck was I with?” she mutters. No one says a word.

“Wow. now, this is odd,” Sophie says. Who’s hungry? I’m buying.”
