Chapter 1
The sun was peeking through the blinds. She covered her head with a pillow and blanket. How could the sun be up, it felt like only be minutes since she collapsed on the bed of the honeymoon suite and pondered every life choice she ever made. The tears started to roll down her face as the events from the previous day came flooding back.
Previous Day
She was surrounded by her best of friends and family, as she prepared to walk down the aisle to say I do. Reminiscing on the day they met, the day she knew she loved him, the day he first said I love you, and the day she turned around to see him on his knee. The champagne was flowing, the room filled with laughter, her dress hung on the door, her dress a strapless trumpet dress, satin and white, simple but elegant.
She wondered if he was as nervous as her. Had he read the letter and opened the gift she had sent him. Engraved on the watch was the date they met, fell in love, and their wedding date. She hoped he would wear it forever.
Her mother’s voice pulled her from her thoughts Haisley, darling hair and makeup is here, are you ready?” She smiled, and her mother, took a deep breath, hugged her mother and said, “I’ve been ready for this day for a long time.” Her mother smile wiped a tear from her face and led Haisley into the living room where her stylist was waiting.
The day flew by getting ready, champagne, laughing, the butterfly’s in her stomach. When it was almost time she sent everyone away, she wanted time alone before being surrounded by two-hundred of their closet family and friends.
Smiling as she looked at herself in the mirror, this was her life, her picture-perfect life. She was about to start the most amazing adventure of her life with her husband. As she turns towards the door, a soft knock sounded, “Come in,” She said.
Her father walks in, seeing him in his gray suit and royal blue tie to match her colors, makes her smile. A pit formed in her stomach, the look on his face was not that of glee, but a deep sadness. “What’s wrong?” she asked meekly. He shook his head and cleared his throat, “Sit down, we need to talk.”
“I can’t sit down, it will ruin my dress,” she replied, thinking there was a problem that could easily be solved. Maybe the photographer was running late, or a bridesmaid spilled something on their dress. The preacher was ill and couldn’t perform the ceremony. She had solutions for all those problems weddings never started on time. They would wait for the photographer. The bridesmaid would just be positioned in pictures to not show the stain. If the preacher was ill, cousin Lucas was a preacher, and he would fill in. The one problem that never crossed her mind was the one she couldn’t solve.
“Pebble, please sit,” he gestured to the bed. She did as he asked, “Renee, received a call about 30 minutes ago.” Puzzled she looked at him, what did her maid of honor receiving a call have to do with her or the wedding? Clearing his throat, “We didn’t know who it was, she said she had to go, and to tell you she was sorry.” Had she been in her room alone for 30 minutes, she thought to herself.
Haisley knew there had to be an explanation, Renee wouldn’t abandon her on her wedding day. She began to speak, “Minus one maid of honor, I am still getting married today.”
“Fifteen minutes ago we got another call,” He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Renee showed up to the church, Jared hopped in her car, they drove off together.
