Chapter 1

Levi Pov.

Before I even opened my eyes this morning I knew something was wrong. I got up and checked my phone. Nothing, I flopped back on my bed. My dad appeared at the door. “Knock knock” He said as he walked into the room. I turned to look at him. “You know your supposed to knock on the door, not just say the words right?” He just laughed “I know “ before sitting on the edge of my bed.

I love my dad, He’s tall and has light brown hair. We both wear glasses but I prefer contacts. He also has a slight muscled frame, but mine is slightly more narrow. His eyes are mismatched, one blue one green just like me. Both my parents know I’m gay. My dad was completely OK with it, excited even. His wife ( my stepmom was less enthusiastic, but she was still supportive.

I know I’m lucky to have them but I just can’t help feeling like there is something missing. I shake my head. Thinking like that will get me nowhere. “You ok Levi?” I Jumped. I had forgotten my father was still here. “I’m fine dad, just tired” I lied. He didn’t look very convinced, but he left it alone. “Alright I going to go wake your sister are you going anywhere today? “ I nodded “ Yeah I’m getting breakfast with Junie and Jessica.” “The twins, ok let us know when you leave” I nodded again. He got up to leave, then turned back “You know we love you right?” He asked his face serious. I raised my eyebrow” of course. He let out a breath and smiled “ just had to make sure”.

I dug my keys out of my pocket and started my car. I got halfway out the driveway before my phone rang. Jessica, I put it on speaker. “What’s up” “Where the hell are you?” she demanded. I answered “halfway out my driveway” “Well then hurry your ass up.” someone said in in the background. “Wait Junie’s there?” I asked “Yes Junie is here and him being here should tell you how late you are.” I heard him protesting in the background. “Alright I’ll be right there” “bye luv” I hung up.”

By the time I got there they had gone through two plates of what I assume was spaghetti. I sat down and ordered lasagna. “What’s up?” i asked. Trying to start the conversation. “ what’s the emergency?” they shared a look and started talking. “We have a new teacher,” “okay” I said confused about why this was so important. I gestured for her to continue. Instead she said “Ask me which class.” ok now I was confused. I asked her “ok what class” Jessica’s smile looked ready to shatter her face. She held a dramatic pause. No kidding she actually said ‘dramatic pause’ I would have laughed if she wasn’t so serious. Junie did a drumroll. “Math” I froze, I swear my heart stopped. I looked between them, "He got fired for smoking pot." I couldn't believe what I was hearing, after four years of dealing with him, he was just... gone. I smiled. The first real smile in a long time. Junie rejoined the conversation. "A blunt at my place to celebrate?"

Narrator .POV

Around this time halfway the town, Mr. Goldbeck was receiving a phone call informing him of a job opening at Lincoln high school. He sighed "Finally I found you, my love". Meanwhile Levi laughed and smoked pot with his friends, completely obliviose to fact that his life was going to change possibly for the better.
