Chapter 1

LYNN

I tapped my pencil anxiously on the desk as I waited for the bell to ring, “Hey Lynn, maybe don’t break my pencil I loaned you,” Luke Scott, my lab partner and enemy, said snatching the writing utensil out of my hand.

I gasped as he took me out of my trance, “What did I tell you about calling me Lynn, New Boy,” I exclaimed, sending a glare his way.

He sent one back, “I’ve been at this school for two months; I’m hardly the new kid.”

“You’ll always be the new kid in my eyes New Boy,” I smirked facing away from him, and back at the clock.

I heard him shuffling, and I soon felt his presence close to my back.

I turned my body to face him, trying my best not to back down from the fact that I barely reached his shoulder. He tilted his head to look down at me, “Why are you so anxious Lydia,” He asked, and I almost shuddered at the use of my actual name.

No Lydia, you are not supposed to feel these things about Luke out of all people. Get a grip girl.

“Get away from me Luke,” I hissed pushing his chest, but he didn’t even budge.

He looked at me with so much intensity, “You really don’t remember huh,” He whispered slowly backing away from me.

“What don’t I remember,” I asked skeptically eyeing him down. He cleared his throat, “Uh- you must not remember that I’m also running for stuco president.”

I brushed off the eerie feeling that he wasn’t telling the truth, and decided to forget about it, “I didn’t forget, I just know you’re not gonna win New Boy,” I smirked.

“I’m not new-” He sighed, “Whatever just know that there’s no reason for you to be anxious about winning, when you’re not gonna win,” He smiled.

I looked at him with a disbelieving look on my face, “Who do you think is gonna win, definitely not you,” I stated rolling my eyes.

He stepped closer to me, “And what makes you think that bimbo,” He grinned.

“Well first off I’m not a bimbo, my hair’s red remember?” He laughed at that, “The fact that you think all bimbos are blonde makes you stereotypical and a bimbo, yeesh Lynn how were you stuco president the last three years?”

I looked at him, “Just because you know the definition of what a bimbo is, does not make you superior to me in any way, I’m gonna win just like I have the past three years like you said.”

The bell rang snapping us out of our staring session, “Come on cousin, it’s showtime,” I heard my cousin Rebecka say, as she entered the empty classroom.

“Oh it’s you,” She snickered at Luke, as he sent a mocking smile her way, “Oh it’s me,” he mumbled in a high pitched voice.

She glared at him, “Why don’t you run along with one of your little friends New Boy, Lydia has a Student Council President spot to win.”

“I’M NOT NEW ANYMORE- you know what Rebecka? Whatever, there’s no need for the two of you to be in a rush anyway because I know for sure that I’m going to win,” The cocky boy smirked.

Rebecka rolled her eyes, and flipped her icy white hair “And how would you know that,” She asked.

“Because I-”

“Yo yo yo it’s T-Swilly in the house,” Me, and my cousin both rolled our eyes at the same time, turning our heads to meet the one and only Terrence Jefferson.

“And I see Thing one and Thing two are also in the house,” He muttered moving his hand back and forth to tell Luke to come to him.

“I’m sorry girls, but we have a competition to win,” He said throwing his arms around Luke’s shoulder.

“Student council isn’t really a competition,” Luke claimed before turning back to me, and Becka, “But we all know I’m gonna win.”

We both scoffed as the boys walked out of the classroom, leaving me and my cousin alone.

“Okay do you have your acceptance speech ready,” She asked, “I have it ready, but I still don’t know if I wanna go for a crying out of joy act, or I totally knew I was going to win one.”

Rebecka smirked, “Definitely not the arrogant act, but you have mascara on so the waterworks act isn’t a good choice either,” She placed her hand on her chin, as we began to walk to the library where the short meeting would be held.

“I didn’t even think of that,” I muttered ashamedly shaking my head, and cursing myself, once we made it in the hallway Rebecka looked around, “Where’s the kooky asian when you need her?”

She was referring to my best friend Jessica Liu, to put it lightly, the two of them weren’t too fond of one another.

“The kooky asians right here, you ignorant caucasian,” she scoffed coming from around the corner. “Not today guys,” I hissed, “Jessica I need you to tell me how I should accept my award.”

“Go for the ‘I know I’m better than you, you know I’m better than you, but I’m modest with my actions which makes me a better person,’ ya know,” She said. The three of us stopped me, and Rebecka sending Jess confused faces.

After a minute or so, I let out a small, ‘Huh,’ both of them turned to me, “I think I actually know what you mean Jess.” I nodded, “Great idea,” I smiled.

We continued our walk to the library, “Rebecka my glasses,” I called as she pulled out my slightly thick rimmed black glasses. “Jessica, you applied to be the secretary correct?”

She nodded her head, “And I’ve got that spot in the bag, I heard it from Ms. Nielson herself.” I smiled, “Perfect, and Rebecka you’re gonna be my Vice right,” She nodded, “I’m gonna be your right hand ma- girl.”

Jessica laughed, “You were right the first time,” Rebecka scoffed, “I am clearly way too pretty to be a boy, so that wasn’t even a good insult.”

It was Jessica’s turn to make a sound of disagreement, “Them eyebrows beg to differ girl.”

“Why you-”

“JESSICA, AND REBECKA,” I yelled putting on my strict mom voice, the two of them quickly got quiet. We walked into the library, all of the students were already there, and Ms. Nielson was getting ready to speak.

“As most of you know today is the day we are choosing spots for the student council board, I know some of you won’t be happy with the results,” She claimed, and I sent a smirk to Luke who unsurprisingly sent me one right back.

“The student council secretary, and treasurer are Jessica Liu, and Rebecka Lynn,” she said ignoring the smacked lips and startled gasps, some of them coming from us, “I thought you said you would know you’re vice president,” I whispered yelled as Ms. Nielson went on.

Rebecka took a few deep breaths, “Oh my god,” She heaved dramatically fanning her face, “I’m the treasurer,” She said disgust on her face, “I think I’m gonna throw up.”

She continued fanning herself while Jess snickered at her breakdown, and Ms. Nielson continued, “Vice President is Lydia Lynn, and President is Luke Scott.”

“Your first meeting will be on Monday.”

Rebecka stopped her dramatic show to look at me Jessica doing the same, “I’m... Vice President?”

I looked up to see Ms. Nielson walking out of the library, to hang up the sheet for the students who hadn’t come, and the students that did began collecting their stuff ready to go home.

“Well Lynn hate to say I told you so, but” Luke smirked at Terrence who laughed, “He did tell you so.”

The two did a handshake, and walked out of the library laughing and telling jokes.

Rebecka put a hand on my shoulder “Lydia I’m so sorry-”

“No,” I said sitting up straighter, and placing a smile on my face. “I’ll make sure that Luke... Enjoys his turn in office as much as possible, I’ll make sure that he goes down in the Lincoln High books,” I gritted my teeth as the blonde boy went out of my view.

Let the year begin.
