Chapter one
I woke in a stir to my alarm. Today’s the day. I can’t believe it’s actually here. I’ve waited so long for this day to come. One year 23 days to be exact. Finally I’ll be seeing those beautiful blue eyes and chiseled features in real life instead of in pictures, videos and video chats. I had sent 90% of my stuff to him already. Kevin Ivy, my love, my everything that I have ever dreamed of. Bright blue eyes, sharp chin, clean shaved everywhere, tall and hardworking. Kevin had told me I could stay with him from the moment we started chatting online but, I couldn’t take him up on the offer. I needed to figure out who he really was in person.
I got up out of my bed in this small town I’ve always lived in. I stretched out and pulled on my robe that had always been in the same place every morning I woke up. The smell of fresh brewed coffee hit me as soon as I walked toward my cracked open bedroom door.
“Goodmorning Amber”, my mom said as I walked into the kitchen, “I made some waffles for you to have before your flight today.” My mom was having a hard time with me moving so far away. For the longest time it’s just been me and her. My dad left when I was a baby and my older brother went off to college a few years back. Since then we have relied on each other. “Thanks mom”, I said as I kissed her on the cheek, “How will I ever service without you.” Tears began spilling down my cheeks. “I wish you would come with me mom”, I could tell she was holding back tears as well, “there isn’t anything here for you mom. Please come with!” She looked at me and smiled tears brimming her eyes, “Now Amber, your brother will be home soon to start his new job. He’ll be taking care of me now. You cannot stay in this deadend town anymore”, she said, “I love you sweetheart and will call you every day. Please go and live your life and make your dreams come true.” We embraced each other for a few minutes before my phone rang. “Miss May your taxi has arrived and they are waiting outside.” The lady on the phone stated. “Ok I’ll be out shortly. Just saying my last goodbye. Thanks” I hung up the phone, looked my mom in the eyes and gave her the biggest hug I could. She kissed me on the cheek and shut the door as I left. This would be the hardest plane ride ever.
Six hours. Six short hours later my flight landed. My heart was pounding out of my chest. My nerves have been getting the best of me. “Please exit to your left” the announcer said. I waited for the horde of people to grab their luggage out of the overhead before I even snapped to reality.
I’m here,
I thought to myself,
I’m finally here.
“Miss, you have to exit the plane now.” The friendly flight attendant said. “Oh, I’m sorry let me just grab my stuff.” The flight attendant looked at me empatheticly, “He or she will be there Miss. Please don’t be nervous.” I looked at her shocked.
How did she know,
I thought. “Don’t worry we see this all the time now. I’ve only ever seen a handful back on flights home.” She put her hand on my shoulder nodding that I would be ok. We small talked as I walked out of the plane. “Will you come with me? I know you have stuff to do but if he’s not there I could really use someone to help me.” I said. “Miss Amber you will be fine. I know he’ll be there. I bet he loves you very much.” She hugged me and saw me off the plane wishing me a good day and good luck. At that moment I realized,
I have no one if this falls through.
Where is she, I thought, I bet she didn’t even get on the plane. I haven’t heard from her since she’s been in the air and her flight had free WiFi. I looked at my phone. It’s been 30 minuets since her flight has landed. Dumbass, what the fuck were you thinking. I knew she wouldn’t come. I thought about everything bad that could happen. What if someone kidnapped her? What if her luggage got left behind? I have a lot of her stuff. Would she just send it for nothing? I was pacing the floor back and forth. Waiting was not one of my best assets. Just as my thoughts were growing more grim my phone rang. I pulled it out of my pocket in a hurry almost dropping it on the ground. I looked at the screen hoping it was Amber but it was my mother. “Hello?” I answered. “Keith are you still at the airport?” My mother was more excited than I was. “Yes mom I’m still waiting for Amber to find me. I told her to meet me by the west entrance. I hope she comes soon.” My mom could tell I was nervous. She could hear it in my voice like always. “Your father said you need to stay calm. It’s not attractive to hold a mans hand for the first time when it’s all sweaty.” Oh mom I thought as I rolled my eyes. “Tell him I know and that I’m trying to stay calm,” I looked up at the escalator to see a horde a people coming down. “Mom it looks like a bunch of people are coming. I need to see if Amber is one of them. I’m going to let you go.” I didn’t wait for a response because just as she was saying goodbye I saw her. Her beautiful black hair flowing down her back, her not too thin figure with curves in all the right places. She turned and looked my way but not at me. Her beautiful brown eyes and bright smile, I could swear, light the room. My one and only, my brown eyed beauty, my love Amber May was finally with me. Finally here within my reach and for once in my life I could say it was love at first sight.
