Chapter 1

-Edith-

I ran through the red rose field that was known as the “backyard” to the castle which I thought was bogus. I slowed my pace as I let my fingertips barely brush the flowers.

“You know you shouldn’t be out here?” A raspy voice called behind me as a smile spread across my face. I turned my head a bit to see a tall man wearing a suit.

“I beg your pardon?” I turned around fully with a look of fake surprise as I rested my hand on my chest with my mouth hanging open.

“Your majesty has requested you for your dress fitting for suitors.” He spoke admiringly he kept his hands together with a playful smile on his lips. I watched as he fixed his suit and then as his hand ran through his blonde, messy hair.

“And?” I said through a giggle as I picked up my huge ball gown. I watched as he rolled his dark blue eyes as he placed his hands on his hips.

“Edith-“ he started as I then turned around and began my sprint. I could run pretty fast for a girl with a twenty pound dress that was barefoot. I heard his footsteps close behind me as I then took a leap of faith, literally.

“Edith!” I heard him yell as I jumped over a river. Right as I was about to hit the water I grabbed onto a tree branch. I moved my hands along the rough bark until I was on the other side of the river. I let out a laugh of success as I continued to run through the woods. That’s when I stopped because I heard a splash.

“Bennet?” I called out frantically as I ran back the way I had come. The river wasn’t peaceful it was fast and harsh and extremely powerful.

When I got to the river I saw Bennet who was standing next to the river completely dry except for his hand which I’m guessing had made the splash noise. He had an evil grin on his face as he lifted up his hand.

“That was not fair! You can’t trick me like that again! I thought you had drowned!” I accused while walking towards him. I then stepped on the ledge which wasn’t sturdy or safe to step on. I felt the earth leave my foot as I started falling slowly. Until a huge hand grabbed my arm. I knew it was Bennet but I wasn’t looking since my eyes were closed.

“Dammit, Edith! What the hell?” If there was one thing I knew about Bennet was that he cursed when he got mad unlike me who just cries. He pulled me up all the way and brought me to his rock hard chest. He wrapped his arms around me and tightly hugged me as I gripped at his jacket.

-Bennet-

Her body was trembling as she pressed herself harder against my chest. I hugged her tighter as her tiny fingers gripped at my suit. Memories of her and me flourished inside my mind as we stood there.

Flashback:

“Bennet!” I heard her call from her bed chamber as I waited outside.

“Yes, Princess?” I asked, confused.

“Can you come in here?” She asked innocently as her door opened and she grabbed me by the arm, forcing me inside her room. What I didn’t notice was that she was mostly naked. I quickly closed my eyes and looked away.

“Edith, what are you doing?” I asked as I felt her move in front of me.

“Please, Bennet. Open your eyes. I swear I’m not naked.” She said through a harmonious laugh. I opened my eyes slowly to see her big green and new staring back at mine.

“So, why am I in here?” I asked as she quickly turned around indicating her corset. “Oh.” I said uneasily.

“My ladies aren’t strong enough to tie me and I know your a lot stronger. So could you please?” She asked while facing the mirror.

“Sure, my lady. What about your hair?” I asked as I could hardly see her corset due to her long wavy brown hair that reminded me of a horse’s mane. Beautiful, soft, and free. She grabbed most of it and pulled it over her shoulder. Of course she didn’t grab all of it. I gently dragged my hand across her back while placing it over her shoulder sending chills through both of us. I quickly yanked at the ribbon as she let out a tiny noise. I looked in the mirror to see her biting her lower lip and close her eyes as I pulled on the ribbon. I finally tied a nice bow with the satin ribbon and gently grabbed her hair and let it fall on her back.

“Thank you, Bennet.” The way my name rolled off her tongue made me feel a certain way that I had never felt before. I gave her a tired smile as I then pushed her against a wall. I had one hand holding her waist and the other holding her hand above her head.

“Edith.” I said her name in her ear as I heard her let out a sigh. “Don’t tease me unless you want me.” I said while pulling away from her as I watched a look of animal appear through her eyes.

“Please-“ she begged under her breath.

“No. Don’t make this harder for me than it already is. I shouldn’t be the one to tear through your innocence! It should be a prince or someone with money or a suitor! Not someone like me.” My voice cracked as I held my hands above my head and walked out the door.

Flashback ends:

The flashback was so strong and compelling that I didn’t even realize that Edith was calling my name into my chest.

“Bennet? Bennet are you okay? I’m so sorry, Bennet!” She said repeatedly as I slowly blinked back to reality.

“Shhhh.” I cooed as she sobbed into my tux as I ran my hand through her soft hair. “I’m okay as long as you’re okay.” I whispered as I heard her sniffle.
