Chapter 1
A alarm sounded. Men ran down the hall to the upper deck, roof.
"All units head up to the deck. This is a code blue! I repeat, this is a code blue! Over!" Said a gruff voice over the intercom. Then it went dead. More footsteps could be heard running toward the deck by the communications room. In the room two men sat, deep in conversation.
"Do you have the package?" A man said. He was buff with a small twisted mustache. He took a wiff of his pipe.
Another man, short and chubby, stood above him.
"Not yet, sir. We been having some technical difficulties." He replied.
"We'll get those difficulties fixed! I want the package by next month."
"Yes. Of course. Code blue, sir. One escaped."
"I trust them to get her back. Though she won't get to far. The fences will stop her. Now go, Dominic, bring the package and make sure the girl gets her punishment for leaving."
The short man nodded then left the room, leaving the boss to think.
Dominic ran up to the top deck of the fenced in facility. Soldiers ran to the edges with binoculars. Dominic walked around, supervising.
"I see her! I see her!" A soldier shouted.
Dominic ran to the soldiers side. "Where?" He said.
The soldier pointed toward the front gate. A girl with wavy brownish red hair with one long purple streke in it,was running toward the closing front gate.
"Go get her and bring her to me." Dominic said.
The soldier nodded. Him and a group of other soldiers ran down toward the fence. Dominic watched them through a pair of binoculars. The soldiers cornered the girl. She tried to fight back but the soldiers pined her to the ground. Dominic smiled. He walked back inside, handing his binoculars to a soldier who held the door for him. He walked back down to the main level and down the hall to his office. He sat at his desk and lit a cigar. A few minutes later four soldiers came in. One of them pulled a chair in front of Dominic's desk. Two of the other soldiers were struggling to hold the girl, who had escaped, in their arms. They roughly sat her in the chair, tied her hands behind her and tied her legs to the chair legs to make sure she would not escape, again. Dominic looked at her with a cold expression. She looked up at him.
"What happened?" Dominic asked the girl. He pointed to her face.
"Did these mean old men give you a black eye?"
The girl turned away from him. He laughed.
"You actually thought you could escape. Did you now, Naomi?"
Naomi shrugged. She wanted to escape and it was worth a shot but it failed. She had only been there for a week and they practically knew everything about her. They were horrible people. She didn't know what they wanted but they really wanted something from her. She tried to think what possibly they wanted but she came up empty. Before she was kidnapped she had been living with her dad and older brother in Iowa. Her mom was in jail so they moved to get away from her, but she didn't know that at the time since she was very little . She was happy. And she was not popular at school and she had nothing special to give her captors. But her captors thought she did.
"You know what will happen to you, right." Dominic said. "The boss told you and the others the rules. The first one is no escaping. The most important is to not disrespect the boss or the punishment is death by torture."
Naomi gulped. She looked at him.
"You captured me from my home! I'll sue you for this! And what is it that you want from me and..." Naomi said, but was interrupted.
"Just shut up! Or I'll shut you up my self!" One of the soldiers said holding up his whip.
Naomi looked away.
"Good girl. Now about that punishment. We will get the boss to see what he wants to do with you." Dominic said. He snapped and a guard left the room. About ten minutes later the guard came back in followed by the buff man with the mustache. Dominic stood.
"Welcome Mr. Doomslly. We found number six." Dominic said.
Doomslly nodded then he walked over and sat on Dominic's desk in front of Naomi. She looked up at him. And he smiled.
"Well, well. Number six, I've heard you tried to escape me. Are you not happy staying with us. Well you know your punishment, right?" Doomslly said. Naomi's eyes filled with tears.
" No. Please!" Naomi said.
Doomslly and Dominic just smiled. Doomslly glanced at the guards standing beside Naomi. The guards nodded. They quickly untied Naomi and and roughly shoved her to the ground. Doomslly and the others, all eccept one guard, began to leave.
"Only a half hour. When you are finished bring her to me." Doomslly said. He then walked out slamming the door behind him. Naomi lay on the floor hands tied behind her. The guard looked down at her holding a long black stick. At the end was a u shaped metal ring. The guard pushed at button and the u ring began to buzz and electricity sparked around it. Naomi's eyes widened. It was a taser. They always used one to punish her. Naomi layed her head back down the ground awaiting the punishment.
As Doomslly walked down the hall to his office he could hear Naomi's screams. He smiled and turned the corner.
Chapter 2
"It's, um, very-er, nice. I guess" I said
"Really,Sky? You hate it. Don't you?" Abigail said.
We stood in Abigail's room looking at the sculpture she had made in art class that day. I thought it looked like a deformed creature of some sort but if was actually supposed to be a unicorn.
"No. I love it." I replied.
"Don't lie to me. I know it looks bad." Abigail said.
I sighed and nodded.
Hi. My name is Sky . My dad and mom died when I was little because of some drugs they took and now I'm living with my mean old cousin named Ed. He takes care of me but not that well. He doesn't care what I do or where I go but he always wants me back by dinner so I can make it for him. What a loser. I go to school unlike him. And on the weekends I hand out with my best friend Abigail. Today in art we got to make clay sculpture. I made a dragon and she make a unicorn. I know, we act like kids but we are really thirteen. But we don't care. Unfortunately Abbi's unicorn didn't bake the right way so it looked at little, odd.
I looked at her.
"You can have my dragon if you want." I said, sympathetically.
She laughed. "No. It's ok. Your a good friend." Abbi replied.
I smiled at her. But my expression changed when I heard my cousins car pull up Abbi's driveway.
"I have to go. My cousin will be mad if I'm not down there in time." I said. I began to leave but Abbi pulled me back into her room. She saw my worried expression.
"Hey. Are you all right? Every time your cousin comes to pick you up you always get this worried look on your face." She asked. I nodded.
"Yep. I'm totally fine. Bye!" I said and ran down stairs. Ed, my cousin, was honking his horn when I ran down the driveway and hopped into his blue Mustang. One thing I forgot to tell you. Only once in a while Ed will pick me up from Abigail's. But mostly I walk home. If I'm not on time Ed gets really mad. And when he does get mad he beats me then locks me in my room with an empty stomach. I have never told anyone. Not even Abbi. Ed has only done this twice since I was only late twice. I know it's abuse but I'm afraid if I tell he will lie and say he didn't do it, then after he will hurt me real bad. I know I should tell someone. I'm just so scared to.
When I hopped in the car, Ed greater me with a grunt. We rode home in silence like always. When we got home Ed plopped down on the couch and turned on the TV. I began to make him his favorite dish, fish and rice when he said,
"I don't want anything. I'm going out with friends for a movie tonight. After, we are coming back her for a sleepover thing. I want this place clean and you gone by ten. Got it nut face?"
"Yes. Of course." I replied. I quickly cleaned up the things I had been using then I began to clean the apartment. As I was putting away dishes I slipped and fell. The plate I was holding broke and cut my hand. I cursed just loud enough so Ed would not hear it.
Halfway through my cleaning Ed left. Once I finished I grabbed my big duffle bag and threw all my things in there, which wasn't much and it all easily fit. Then I went into the pantry and tossed a bunch of snacks into it. I grabbed an apartment key from the front table and walked outside into the cool night air. I closed and locked the door behind me. This was the first Ed had sent me out like this. So I decided to head to Abbi's house. I would crawl through her window and tell her the truth. Then I would never go back. Though Ed knows where Abbi lives so he would easily find me. But she and her parents would protect me if he did come looking fo me, right? Anyway, I ran down two streets to Abbi's house. I went around back to Abbi's window. I check to see if it was locked. Luckily it wasn't. I slowly opened it and slipped into Abbi's room. She was sleeping in bed. I slowly krept up to her and gently shook her. Abbi immediately awoke. She thought someone was trying to kidnap her. I covered her mouth just before she started to scream.
โHey, itโs me! Sky.โ I whispered.
Abbi turned to me and relaxed. I took my hand away from her mouth.
โWhat are you doing here? Are you ok?โ She asked.
I sat down next to her on her bed.
โI need to tell you the truth about something.โ I said.
I explained to her the real truth about Ed and how I would never go back. Abbi nodded and agreed to take care of me. I slept there that night and not soon enough, it was morning. Abbi explained to her parents what had happened over breakfast.
โSo this cousin of yours, Ed, is abusive to you?โ Abbiโs dad asked me. I nodded.
โYes. Iโm not going back and I was wondering if you could I guess, adopt me.โ I said
โYes! Please mom and dad? We could be sisters. And that Ed can go to jail.โ Abbi said.
Her parents looked at each other then back at us.
โWell, itโs much more complicated to make Sky a part of our family.โ Abbiโs mom said.
We both frowned.
โYou can stay here for a while, Sky. We will start on the process to see if you can live with us. But Ed will have either admit he's been abusive to you or you have to get good proof he did fo it. And you need a good lawyer." Abbiโs dad said.
I was happy but still a little worried. I woul have to find good evidence first which shouldn't be to hard, or maybe it will. Well I'll have to figure it out. If they couldnโt take me in then I would have to go back to live with Ed. He would literally kill me if that happened and he would never let me her the end of it. We went up to Abbiโs room. We had the whole week off because of a school break. We sat on Abbiโs bed, talking.
โI hope you can live with us.โ Abbi said
โMe too. I hope Ed goes to jail.โ I replied. โBut I donโt want him to die. He is still my cousin and I know he can change. If he goes to jail he might learn his lesson."
โMaybe. But if you need anything we are always here for you.โ Abbi said.
I smiled and we hugged.
The next day we slept in and got up around ten. We ate breakfast and decided to ride Abigailโs horses to the park. We got our saddles and headed to the big red barn behind Abbiโs house.
โDo you remember Crystal? My horse?โ Abbi asked.
I nodded. Crystal was a big mare. She was white with brown splotches all over her fur. After a few years of knowing each other Abbiโs parents gave me a new military Clydesdale they had gotten. He was very big and strong. He was dark grey with a wavy black mane. I named him Liberty. I guess Liberty was a wild horse before cause he never liked riding with a saddle or a bit. So I rode him with out anything. I was fine with it though. Liberty trusts me. You could say that me and Abbi are best friends with horses. Some might think thatโs weird but those who do donโt ride. I hopped on to Liberty. He grunted at me and I looked down at him and smiled. Abbi mounted Crystal and we rode off. We rode in silence for a while until we stopped at a small stream. The horses went to it and got a drink. Me and Abbi sat under a large oak to get some shade.
โDo you think we should head back or go a little further to the cliffs?โ I asked.
โWe should keep going. I heard there is little town with shops down the way. I think we should check it out.โ Abbi replied.
I nodded. We got up and went over to where Liberty and Crystal we standing. I bent down and took a drink from the stream. The water was cool and tasty. Abbi did the same. I stood and turned to get back on Liberty. But something didnโt seem right. I turned to Abigail.
โDo you hear that?โ I asked.
Abbi looked around. โNo. I hear nothing.โ She said.
โExactly. Somethings not right. Itโs too quiet.โ I said. Suddenly there was a low growl. We slowly turned around and behind us was a giant black bear. I froze with fear. Abbi began to back away slowly towards the oak.The bear looked at us. It sniffed the air then slowly came towards us. I slowly backed up and soon I was next to Abbi. She looked at me. I could she the fear in her eyes.
โWhat do we do?โAbbi whispered. I looked around. Liberty and Crystal were still grazing behind us. I thought for a moment then looked back at Abigail.
โSlowly back up and mount on Crystal. Try to not make a loud noise. Iโll be right behind you.โ I said. I looked at the bear who was still approaching. Then I nodded to Abigail. She nodded back. Abigail did as I said and soon she was next to Crystal. Once she mounted I slowly backed up to Liberty. As I backed up I didnโt see a rock behind me and I tripped falling on the ground. I cut my arm and it began to bleed. I looked up at the bear. He kept on coming toward me. But he didnโt seem to mind that I fell. I didnโt want to stay there forever. So it quickly got up and ran to Liberty. I jumped on him and we rode toward the town. I turned back to see if the bear was following us. Suprisingly it wasnโt. I sighed with relief. Abbi looked at me. She was still trembling.
โThat was scary. Is your arm ok? Itโs still bleeding. You should take care of it when we get to the town.โ Abigail said.
"Ok. Will do. It hurts but I'll be fine. How far until we get to the town, anyway?" I asked.
"If we run then we will get there in about the minutes. If not it will take maybe twenty minutes." Abigail replied. I kicked liberty and we ran to the town. And just like what Abigail had said, we arrived at the town front gates in ten minutes. We found a post near front and tied up Liberty and Crystal. Then we walked around. People were bustling around going in and out of shops holding bags of IPhonnes, food, and what not. We found a medicine shop and we bought some supplies for my arm. After Abbi patched me up we walked around looking all the cool shops. We didn't get anything but some bug bites. When I started to get dark we called Abbi's parents to see if we could rent a room in one of the hotels. They said yes. Once we got into our room we got ready for bed then we sat watching TV. That's when my phone rang.
"I'll get it!" Abigail said. She got up and grabbed my phone from the bathroom. She gasped.
"What is it?" I asked.
She turned to me with a worried expression.
"It's you cousin." She replied.
I snatched the phone out of her hands and hit the end call button. I wanted nothing to do with him right now. But them suddenly I remembered that Ed could track my location with my phone! I had to get ride of it. I looked up at Abigail.
"I have to get ride of my phone. Ed will find me if I still have it. He is going to track me with it then probably kill me when he does find me." I said.
" I say we throw I into the toilet then leave." Abigail suggested.
"Ya but be bought the room. We don't want to wast our money." I replied.
"So what? I'll make up for it and if Ed is coming here we will already be heading back home. So luckily we don't run into him on the way." Abbi said.
I nodded. We quickly packed, checked out then ran to the front to get Crystal and Liberty. We were to busy getting out of the town that we forgot where we were going. I looked around to see nothing but trees everywhere!
"Um, Sky? I think we are lost. I don't remember passing through here on the way to the town." Abbi said.
"Me either. Where do you think we are?" I asked.
Abigail shrugged. We kept on riding. We passed tree after tree after tree. Nothing but trees. I guess we were in a forest. As we went the moon beams hit the trees just right that it made them look scary. We soon came up to a pond.
"Should we stop here at the pond or keep going?" I asked.
"My parents will kill me if I don't get home by morning." Abigail said.
I guessed we'd keep riding. We did stop for a short time to let the horses get a drink. Then we rode through the woods until we came to a clearing. There was a herd of sheep in our way.
Chapter 3
I had no idea how a bunch of sheep got here but Crystal didn't seem to like it. She began to get fussy.
Hi! My name is Abigail Liss. I was six when I lost my first baby tooth. Just a fun fact. Anyway I met Sky when I was in first grade and we have been friends ever since. We have been really close friends too. I'm surprised she didn't tell me the truth about Ed before. She must have been really scared to tell anyone and I don't blame her cause I would have done the same if it was me. I really wanted to Sky to live with us. But we will have to see if my parents came convince the court to let her stay. Anyway know we are stuck between a forest and a giant herd of sheep. I looked over at Sky. She was sweating a lot and she was breathing really heavily. I caught her just before she hit the ground. I could see her arm had gotten much worse and maybe infected with something. WhenI unwrapped her bandages it looked pretty bad. She looked up at me.
โIโm...it hurts.โ She said.
I was really worried at this point but I didnโt want Sky to know that.
โIโm really sorry. Just try to relax. Iโll get you back on Crystal and Iโll try to get back to the town even if Ed is there. Just,um.โ My hands were trembling.
โJust stay with me, ok?โ I finally said.
Sky slowly nodded. I lifted her up onto Crystal. Then I grabbed a rope and tied it around Libertyโs neck then hopped back onto Crystal. I sat behind Sky to support her. As we rode her long black wavy hair hit my face. I smiled but then went back to focusing on where we were going. I followed the path back to the town. I found a medical house just a few blocks down from the entrance. I tied Liberty and Crystal to a post then dragged Sky inside. The front desk lady abruptly stood when I hobbled in dragging Sky. She didnโt saw anything but nodded to me then disappeared down a hallway. I lay Sky on the ground and found a throw pillow t0 prop up her head. Then I sat next to her, waiting. About five minutes later the front desk lady came rushing back in followed by a doctor and two nurses. They grabbed Sky and brought her to the back. I hade to wait out side. I have to say it all just happened so fast. I called my parents to let them know what happened. Then met me at the medical house about an hour later. I ran and hugged them when they walked in.
โIโm so glad your here. I was really worried.โ I said.
โOh dear. Iโm so happy your ok. You were very smart coming back to the town and helping Sky. I hope sheโs all right. Iโm really proud of you.โ My mom said squeezing me harder.
We sat at the front until one of the nurses came in to talk to us.
โSkyโs going to be fine. She was awake for a bit and told me and the doctor what hade happened and how you saved her, Abigail. Her wound is not infected but she did lose a large amount of blood. Sheโs sleeping right now. You can go back to the room if you like. Overal sheโll be ok. You can take her home tomorrow afternoon.โ The nurse said.
Me and my parents nodded. We went back to Sky's room and sat beside her bed. About a half hour later my parents left the get some things from my house since we knew we would be there for a while. I stayed with Sky. I found a book from the library across the street and red for a while. Around midnight a Sky finally woke.
"where am I?" Sky asked.
I walked up next to the bed and held Sky's hand.
"You are safe now. You are at the hospital." I replied.
Thank you fo brining me here. I feel much better. Did the doctors say anything?"
"Nope. Just to get some sleep. They said you are released to go by tomorrow afternoon."
Suddenly the hospital room door swung open. Pure fear struck me and Sky. Ed and two policemen stood in the doorway.
Chapter 4
Naomi lay on the floor shaking with pain. Tears ran down her face. The taser hurt mine then ever. She thought this would never end. Only one hour of this horrible punishment, but it seemed like five hours. She thought the guard would torture her again but in stead he put the taser back into his belt and dragged her to her feet. He then pressed a bottom on his radio.
"This is guard number sixty one. Finished with prisoner twelve and reporting her back to cell." He said.
He waited a few seconds then a voice came on the other end.
"Roger that, sergeant. You may proceed."
The guard led Naomi down a series odd lions hallways until they reached the prison part of the facility.
