Flash fiction with a horror twist.
The whole community was bobbing for apples. The Goodmans finished first and sighed in relief. Then the neighbor boy got his and let out a whelp. One by one, each person in the small, close-knit enclave caught their fruit then lay on the ground, wet, exhausted, and relieved to finish the task. Except little Katie. Little Katie couldn’t snag an apple. The doctor came and dragged little Katie away for one of his experiments.
