Prologue
“Promise you’ll come back.” the maiden whispered, staring at the man in front of her. Her hand was interlocked into his hair.
“I promise,” he whispered as he pulled away.
The maiden watched as he boarded the boat, tears gathering in her eyes. She saw him look at her for the last time.
That was when the bomb went off.

“Terrorist attack on..”
She switched the channel.
“The people have been shocked as..”
Switched.
“The terrorists haven’t been found, but police are..”
She didn’t hear the rest. She couldn’t.
She didn’t even have the strength to change the channel. Knock.
Sh*t. Ruhe was home.
She was gonna have to tell her.
Pushing away her grief with no result, the woman stood up and walked to the door. Before opening it her eyes slid down to the floor. Post? She hadn’t heard the postman come. And he couldn’t have come while she was away. She hadn’t left the house since he died.
But she hadn’t checked the post when she came home either.
She opened the door.
