Chapter 1 Rayla

Why does this happen to me. Not once, But twice! At this point I believe my father is out to ruin my life. All I want is to go to my last highschool party.

I just graduated highschool three days ago, Well barley. If it wasn't for my best friend Addy. She pushed me through this past year. She is a blessing, all legs at 5'8. Light brown curly hair with piercing blue eyes.

I let out a frustrated sigh at my father. "Dad please! Today is my eighteenth birthday and I can do what I want. But i want to respect your wishes." Looking at my father with the best pleading eyes i could muster. "As long as your back by 11p.m. I can't have you out near midnight. Rayla, promise me you will be home before midnight?"

I was walking back to my room mid text back to Addy that i could go to the party with her. I wonder why my dad was acting so wierd. Like something was going to happen? What would possibly happen? Shrugging my thoughts to the side. I start to ruffle through my closet to find the best outfit for tonight. Today was my birthday, Why not go out of my comfort zone! Normally i shoot for comfort. But tonight this girl is going to show off my goods! Silently "woohooing" myself. I came across a mid thigh, high waisted skirt. Black thigh boots and a open back sweater to tuck in. Throw some curls in my long auburn hair. Dark makeup to some what compliment my brown eyes. "Well if only i had legs like Addy." I laugh and talk to myself.

I felt a sudden pain all over my body. Great. Just what i needed. I hope it's not that time of month. Grunting as i headed down stairs to tell my dad adios.

Slinking into my oldish Mazda CX7 and headed to the bonfire party. I texted Addy to meet me but no reply yet. I wonder if she was meeting her crush of the month. As i was driving i zoned out thinking about all the memories i have had with Addy. All the ups and downs as being friends. I cant believe she will be leaving me at the end of the summer. Then i will be left here in this small ass town.

Spring Hill was small and everyone knew everyones business. Maybe ten blocks worth of town. Not counting the surrounding lakes and mountains. It was well secluded. Spring Hill was beautiful, I felt more at home in the wilderness out hiking by the lakes then anywhere i have been. Which wasnt saying much.

I switched thoughts and started thinking of my father. Of this past year on how his mood and how he has been clingy. I wonder what is going on with him?

I suddenly shake myself to stop zoning out. What the hell is wrong with me. How am i already at the beginning of the trail head? Did i just zone out for thirty minutes? Driving my car into a empty spot near the trail head to do the small hike to Doris lake where the party is at. My stomach starts to be full of Knott's. My head throbs, as i grab the steering wheel. Deep breaths, deep breaths. Is all i can concentrate on.

All these thoughts rush to my mind. Thump, thump, thump. "What the hell was that?" I whisper to myself as im trying to calm my nerves down. Still breathing in and out, calming myself down. Looking around i can't see anything in the pitch black engulfing my car.

"You fucking idiot, i hate you Leo!" I jumped out of my car about to punch my dumbass friend in head. "Hey! I was only trying to play. If you punch me, i will leave your ass alone to walk the trail." Leo starts laughing as he stands leaning against my open door of my car. Frustrated at Leo, I ignore his comment and start getting my breathing back in check. Grabbing my small backpack and tossing it over my shoulder. I slam my door and lock my Mazda. Walking ahead of Leo I start off on the trail, with him running after me.

Deep breathes. One foot after another. Deep breath. Deep... Inhaling a odd smell. I stop and look around. An odd cedar and musk smell. Leo runs right into the back of me. Turning around to look at him. "What are you doing, looking for all the single ladies?" Leo shakes his head and his sandy brown shaggy hair falls in his brown eyes. Looking at me, "maybe I am, Or maybe im looking for something more. I have been a very patient man." A little confused I glance back at him. Giving Leo a small confused smile, I started to walk again down the trail.

Today has been the weirdest day. Shaking my head, we finally reach the clearing next to the lake. The party is already booming. I spotted Addy right away. Leaving Leo behind since he is a social butterfly. I head to Addy. Finally, let's get this party started.

Basically skipping my way to Addy, "Hayyyyyy." Smiling from ear to ear. "Addy! Are you ready or what? Should we go swimming? What to do lady?" Addy slowly smiles and giggles at me. "Calm down Rayla, we have all night. You sound like a cave women deprived of social gatherings." Laughing at my expense, Addy runs over and gets me a drink. Looking around i spot almost all of our graduating class. Which is big for a small town.

Pains start again in my upper shoulders. Starting to hunch over a bit. Addy finally returns with my mixed drink concoction. Grabbing the drink from her, I swallow the burning fluid that slides down my throat. "Wow Addy, that was horrible." I said as I watched her laugh and hug me. "I need another, but maybe a tad bit better." Making her way back to the drink table. I watched Addy flirt with a guy I never seen before. Tall, slender and attractive. Actually he was beyond attractive, where did he come from?

Finally taking in my surroundings. Im so bad at noticing anything around me because I'm always zoning out. So let's look around, a few drunk girls already wasted after an hour of being here. A few guys thinking they will get lucky with said drunk girls. Addy being a flirt with mysterious dude.

And that is when I noticed the most gorgeous guy I have ever seen. The odd smell hit my nostrils again. Pretty sure i forgot to breath. Damn lungs. Damn my potty mouth.
