Chapter 1 - Reality
It was January, the coldest month of the year. The haunting orphanage by Moss Lake echoes with screams of lonely children. But there was one room that’s silent like a Hurd of sleeping lambs. A girl named Siren and a boy named Denver,Siren be laying on the top of her bunk, reading a book silently and Denver would sleep .The two of them would never create a peep.
“Come on!, get out of your rooms and down for breakfast!” The head of House, Ms Grungen, would scream. She had a thing for screaming , all of the children despised her. She had wrinkles down her face and her eyes the colour death. She didn’t like the children any better. one by one, the exhausted children would emerge slowly from their cave. But not the siblings.
“Denver....Denver.....DENVER!!”
“Wha..what, I’m awake!” Denver jumped from his bed, rubbing his dry eyes.
“It’s time for breakfast.” Siren explained calmly.
“ Belch, I hate breakfast!” Denver complained. “. I’m not going” He pulled the blanket roughly over his face.
“Come on Denver, beans and rice is better than nothing!” Siren replied
“ No, I tried some of those beans and I’m still a mess!” Denver debated. “ Ms Grungen can shove..”
“Fine then but I’m going, and if she asks for you I’m telling the truth.” She slowly walks to the door and walks away.
“Uggh, fine” Denver following, they march down the creaking hallway to breakfast.

An aching racket is heard from inside the kitchen, all the starving children wait impatiently at a dining table for their food. Every day the lonely beings feast on beans and rice for breakfast, vegetable stew for lunch and toast with butter for dinner. Siren and Denver are tired of the food given aswell as the other children. Suddenly a row of weary waiters emerge from the kitchen door holding tray after tray of bland rice smothered in revolting beans. All the tiresome children gobble there breakfast , while the dull siblings stare anxiously at their food. Ms Grungen slams the door open and the siblings eat away.
After the nauseating breakfast, the two travel back to their room. Siren sits uncomfortably on the coarse floor and she notices a glowing light coming from a broken floor board. She swam to the light and struggled to take of the wooden plank, Denver notices her strange activity and starts to investigate.
“Siren, what are you doing?” Denver says curously
“Argh , it’s not coming off!” Siren says furiously “ Look , can’t you see that glowing light coming from under the floor”
Denver starts to look, after a while he finally noticed the strange leak from the floor, he helps Siren open the floor to the light. Finally - success, the floor gave way to a case of stairs leading down to a basement. There hung a sign saying - EXIT. Denver looks at Siren in glory. He starts to go down the stairs.
“Wait, Denver!” Siren interrupts “ Our stuff !” She points elegantly to their beds. Denver gathers their items and Siren waits for him impatiently.
“ Now we can try and find Mum and Dad!” Denver says tiredly
. He notices a shiny gold coin under Sirens bed. A $2 coin. He starts to search for more, Denver scrapes together $5 from loose change around the room aswell as a silver key, which obviously opens the basement door. The siblings rush down the stairs , when the floor closes itself off, and they can’t escape.
“Great, thanks Siren, now we’re stuck with no way out!” Denver sobs. “ WE’RE GONNA DIE!!!”
Siren rolls her eyes
“Turn around, dumbo” She points to the door behind him
Denver blushes shyly and struggles to turn the silver key in , finally the door gave way and opened to a beautiful forest, covered by natural trees , moss and flowers. They walk in curousity, when the hear Ms Grungen yelling.
“Time for lunch!!!” She bellows deeply
She knocks on every child’s door, when she reaches the siblings room, she kicks the door down to find no sight of the children.
“WHERE ARE THE SIBLINGS!¡!” She screams from the depth of her soul.
The children run as fast as the can, finding items along the way. They sit on a bench they found a few feet from the path. Siren found a bucket. Denver discovered a towel and they are munching on sugar berries they found on a bush. Suddenly a noise is heard from a bush in front of them. A man and a women emerge from the sugar berry bush. The man had silky black hair just like Denver and the women had curly brown locks scrunched in a loose bun. She had a smooth face like Siren, they looked identical in a way, but they were complete strangers.
“Hello” the man says gently
“ who are.. y-you?” Denver stutters cowardly.
“I’m Merliah” The women replies
“And I’m Wele” Says the man
“I’m Siren, he’s Denver and we are siblings, nice to meet you” Siren smiles doubtfully
“What are you guys doing here alone?” He asks concerned
Siren notices there clothes, Wele’s wearing a ripped coat and a bloody shirt and damaged boots and the lady has a dirt white dress topped with a teared belt and black shoes. Both have a slot with a big shiny blade.
“ I don’t know if we can trust them, Denver” Siren whispers to her brother
“ it’s fine they’re are probably hunters.” Denver replies “ Well we just escaped a dangerous foster home”
Wele and Merliah exchange looks.
“ Wait, Isle Building?” Merliah asks
“ Yes, we were fed terrible food and treated miserably” Denver replied
“ We need to get you out of here, it’s not safe!” Wele says firmly
He grabs them by the arms and tugs gently as they run rapidly through the forest, Merliah following. Wele begins to slow down to catch a break, the 3 behind him.
“ We are almost at the Cottage, it’s where me and Merliah live.” Wele explained “ You will live there for now until you aren’t looked for anymore.”
Siren looked at Denver with concern.
“Denver and I are going to have a talk about this, we are not quite sure this is safe...”
Wele nods, calmly.
“Of course, what ever you need”
Denver and Siren turn to the side closer to the path.
“What’s to discuss Siren?” Denver complains “This is safer than any other place around here, what choice do we have?”
Siren sighs... “I guess your right, but somethings not right about them and if I’m not comfortable I’m leaving,”
Denver nods impatiently , they turn back to the adults and agree to his invitation. Slowly after they begin to walk .... walk ..... and walk, until finally there stood a firm, quite large cottage. With a lantern, bushes with sugar berries and a small orange door.
“This is it!” Wele says proud “ I made it myself”
Merliah looks at the children, the children look at Merliah.
“Come on then , we better get in before someone finds us!” Wele guides the children in the cottage one by one.
Siren looked around the fine cottage. A set of 2 bunk beds, a babies cot big enough for two children , a wide kitchen with a small round dining table. She noticed it seemed familiar to her in a way.
“Why do you have a babies cot?” Siren asks with confusion
“Well we used to have children, just one day they disappeared!” Merliah explained
“Did you go and look for them?” Denver asks politely
“ Yes , we broke into Isle Building to find them but we got thrown out!” Wele continued
“From that day we kept looking, but that weird Ms..Ms Grud..., oh I forget her name-“
“Ms Grungen” Denver said quickly
“Yes, thank you Ms Grungen, she knew something about them I swear.” Wele said concerned
“Why?” Siren asked
“She kept following us , even before they were born she was spying on us, So we moved here in secret.” Wele explained clearly “ Merliah had the babies, then one night they vanished”
Denver stared at the ground, Merliah came over and came him a hug.
“ I understand how hard this is for you all, so how ‘bout you wash up and come out for dinner?” Merliah reassured
The kids nod and head into the bathroom.

They are all sitting in the dining room. The kids lick their plates clean.
“Would you like more?” Merliah asks politely
The nod without hesitation. Merliah dumps more duck and veggies onto their plate. Within seconds their plates are clear.
“ Can you tell us about your children?” Denver asks politely
“ Yes, of course. We had twins, one boy and one girl.” Merliah sighs sadly
“That’s funny, Denver and I are twins!” Siren compares
“ Yes , that’s odd, you look quite like our children.” Wele says confused
“That’s can’t be true, do you remember us?” Merliah asks
The kids examine both of the adults
“NOPE” Siren and Denver exclaim.
“I guess so, it’s bed time I suppose. You must be tired.” Merliah says
“Good night, thank you for dinner” the kids say with gratitude.
One by one the kids hop in bed and slowly the lights are dimmed and the kids are asleep.
