Prologue

The footsteps grew louder as Delos slowed his pace. A scroll was tucked under his right arm, and in his hand a pouch of unique items.

He took a deep breath to calm himself down, then took off running again. It was clear that Delos wasn’t going to lose his pursuers on speed alone, but losing them wasn’t necessary.

“Just a little further…” he muttered, avoiding what he could with his blurry vision. He then stumbled into a clearing a few minutes later. “

“Finally… I can… lose these… bastards…” he said between breaths. The clearing was speckled with flowers and silver rays of moonlight, peeking through the canopy top. Delos stepped forward to a sizeable boulder with ancient runes on the nearer side. He touched the stone gently and said,

“Vivus.” the markings lit up, illuminating him in a faint blue glow. Delos could feel the power emanating from the rock. The air in between him and the rock shimmered slightly.

A jagged crack formed in the middle of the stone, slowly tearing a huge whole in it’s surface.

Bits of rock were falling away and floating up then disintegrating. Soon, all that was left was a giant, gaping void, glowing a dark blue aura.

Delos heard a swift “ffffftt,” as an arrow whizzed passed his head, flew into the stone and disappeared with a flash. Delos slowly turned around to meet his pursuers.

Three knights, clad in armour, entered the clearing. An archer followed behind and perched on a rock. The armour made them bulky. But with all the scratches and dents he figured it had seen many a battle and survived each and every one.

The biggest knight, who appeared to be the leader, drew his sword and pointed it at Delos.

“Well well well, look what we have here. Thought you’d be tougher. Now hand them over and we can forget this ever happened.” The two other knights behind him snickered, the archer just stood there with his bow drawn.

“You four… are all the king sent?” Delos called out, while opening the string bag and throwing the scroll through the portal.

“Deaths gonna come knocking on his door.”

“Yea and so what, it’s four verses one here!” the second knight said.

“You don’t even have any Armour.” said the third knight

“Now now, settle down, he’s got magic, remember.” explained their leader.

Delos snickered, then threw in the objects one by one. A pair of earrings, a ring, a pair of finger less gloves, an armband, and a necklace. He then discarded the pouch and pulled out 2 identical short swords from his cloak. He brought the blades up to his face and whispered

“Ignium” as he pulled them away they were set aflame. He charged the first knight with amazing speed and dodge the arrows that were coming at him. He wasn’t sure but it was as if the archer was missing on purpose. The archer took aim one last time but at the last second shot the second knight right in his neck. right in the crease.

The surprise betrayal took the knights by surprise. Delos didn’t waste any time and swung for the lead knights legs. He parried and kneed Delos in the gut. Delos lost his left sword and the knight stepped on it.

The fire was snuffed out and then the sword disappeared. Delos quickly recovered and drew what seemed to be another short sword and brought the blade to life once more. Then he let off a barrage of slashes. But he was rammed in the side by the third knight before a final arrow took him in the face.

Enraged the first knight charged Delos and they were in a rhythm of block, parry, strike, strike, block, parry, strike, strike. Delos broke the cycle by dropping his left sword and uppercutting him, then he slashed his throat with his other sword and stared into the man’s eyes as he became nothing more than a lifeless lump.

He looked up and seen three bodies lying on the ground, but no archer.

“Like shooting fish in a barrel.” he muttered

But Delos had no time to worry about him. He ran to what was left of the portal and squeezed in before it disappeared, but just before it closed a swift figure squeezed through. Leaving the small meadow behind.

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...
