Chapter 1

“Pale! PALE!” Came a roar above me. I groaned, flipping over, glaring at my best friend, Sunray. The sun shone off his dark golden scales, blinding me. He smiled crookedly. “Why did you do that?” I complained. He chuckled and replied, “Jumper and Ivy are here.” I jumped up, silently calling Sunray a giant glob of camel spit. I ran out from under the tarp and crashed right into Jumper. He looked down at me, his sweet green eyes giving me that intense stare. I found myself blushing. Why did Sunray have to embarrass me as always around him? I looked up at him nervously, and his frown turned to a joking grin.

“Hey Pale” He said, looking perfectly calm. Ivy quickly skidded on his back, making me jump. Ivy twined her tail with Jumper’s, making him blush. “ISN’T THIS COOL?” She yelled, excitement blazing in her eyes, “THERE WAS NEVER SCHOOL BACK IN THE RAINFOREST!” Jumper was now blushing furiously, bright red. I purred in amusement. Ivy was always excited, and she had no idea of Jumper’s feelings for her. It was really funny to watch. But it did not help that I liked him. But it was just a tiny crush. Sunray sprang out and chest bumped Jumper, making Ivy fall off with a squeak. Jumper whipped around and helped her up. Then, ma came. “You better go. There’s already a war brewing between us and the Icewing’s. You have to go to Jade Mountain for safety.” “Or you just wanted to get rid of us.” Muttered Sunray quietly. I stepped on his claw and he let out an “Ow!” Ma wrapped me in a hug and whispered, “I hope you make some new friends, Treasure.”

Then, she let go, and flew away to the Royal Sandwing Palace. To train for a battle that we would most likely never see her again after. I choked back a sob and said goodbye to Sunray. Earlier he had decided to go with Ma and train. I hope he survives. He blinked at me, and he looked like he was holding back tears. Then, I turned away. Jumper and Ivy were already in the sky, waiting. As we departed I turned back to look one more time and saw the strangest thing: A black dragon, regarding me with cool, dark blue eyes.
