Prologue

There began the Elemental Chaos. A myriad of arcane elemental energies constantly at war with itself. Out of that energy two beings were manifested: Belial and Makresh. These two supreme beings warred and fought for time immemorial.

Eventually, Makresh sought a way to overpower Belial and have sole control of the Elemental power within the cosmos. So he crafted a world, and used it as a breeding ground for all his monstrosities to win the war against Belial. When Belial learned of Makresh’s plan, he too built his own plane of existence: Lyonia. Within, Belial wove into being the Dragonborn, the Aasimar, the Centaurs, and the Humankin. These he created with life and love for morality and all that is good in the world.

Not long after creating the Gunderkin, Makresh invaded the world of Lyonia and locked out Belial. There he reigned and tormented the peoples of Lyonia, forcing them to be the toys of his evil creations. But Belial had loyal followers among the Humankin, most notably a man named Cron.

Belial visited Cron in a dream, as the story goes, and blessed him and three followers of his choosing to help him fight off Makresh and bring back Belial and freedom to Lyonia. So Cron chose his three sons to follow him into battle with Makresh.

The four men went and met Makresh in the labyrinth he called his domain on Lyonia, and had a furious battle. At the peak of fighting, Cron suffered a mortal wound, but had enough strength to slay the demon and remove him from the world. Shortly after, Cron died as his sons watched on.

So Belial, moved by the courage of his deeds and purity of his heart, blessed his sons permanently to the service of Belial, that they be examples for the world that truth and goodness will always outlive the wickedness of evil. While exiting the labyrinth of Makresh, the sons found all those enslaved to Makresh and freed them, leading them to the surface and into a life of fighting the dark creatures left by Makresh to terrorize the Gunderkin of Lyonia.

Many decades later, as the sons of Cron were getting old, the youngest son Ronal had a falling out with his brothers Cyrol and Magran. But despite their brother leaving them, Cyrol and Magran built the Gunderkin into the twin cities of Cyrodel and Eriden. They became know and the twin beacons of Lyonia, the order in a world of chaos.

Not much is known of Ronal and the people that followed him. But there are rumors, with are not worth being discussed in this memoir. What is known is that no child of Ronal has been seen for several decades. They maybe died out, they may be in service to Makresh, no one knows. But the armies of Cyrodel and Eriden are always watching for the return of Makresh.

There was chaos. Pure, formless planes of elemental power. This chaos is warring, constantly churning out beings of immense power, the gods, the angels, and the demons. In fact, Makresh and Belial are the first manifestations of the chaos.

Let it be said, Makresh is a demon of unfathomable evil. Left unchecked, he wrought terror and misery, bringing Lyconia to the edge of extinction. But because of the influence of Belial, we were saved and rid of the wretched demon. But we must be ever vigilant of his return. That is why the Crimson Griffins exist, to watch for the day Makresh attempts to exact revenge.
