The Beginning
I wake up on a Saturday morning full of energy. I get dressed in my basketball shorts and a plain black shirt, to go for a jog. I descend from my room to the kitchen and see my older brother, Jeremy, sitting on top of the counter munching on an apple and shirtless. He smiles once he sees me.
“If it isn’t the birthday boy himself. Happy 17th birthday Cyrus” he says and came up to me. I was expecting a hug, but he just gave me a punch on my shoulder
“What the- what was that for?!” I look at him while my face formed a frown and his bright blue eyes look into mine as he shrugs
“We are going out at 6:30 today. One of my friends left me a key to his club. He closed it down for today. Invite whoever you want Cy.” He says and a smirk creeps on my lips
“Alright Jer, thank you so much. I am going to go for a run. Back in two hours or something” I say and grab my water bottle from the fridge and tossed it into my backpack then swung it to my back. Before I approach the door, I turn to my brother and give him a punch in the same place he gave me. I ran out as I heard him shout something about getting me back. I head to the door and stop as I place my headphones in my ears quickly and let the music blast into my ears then started to head to the forest
Once I reached the forest I leaned on a tree and took a break. I looked around the forest and admired the view. The leaves on the trees are mostly yellow with a hint of green. The fresh crispy wind ruffled the tips of my thick dark brown hair. The smell of Autumn air calms me down. Being surrounded by nature clears my head with all my problems and worries in life. Sighing, I took out my water bottle, which is filled with ice-cold water, and drank from it. The cold water cooled me down almost instantly. I heard a twig break which caused me to look around me; I ignored it since I thought it was a rabbit hopping around. Another twig broke then footsteps followed. It sounded like someone trotting around. It might be a wild dog, I thought. I shrugged and put my water bottle back in my bag. I started to jog, making my way out of the forest as a mysteriously embodied figure emerged from the shadows of the trees.
I honestly have no idea what happened or what that was. I wake up in a white room. I blinked as the lights overhead were like burning orbs of fire to my eyes. The last few memories came flooding as my head starts to throb in pain. Once my eyes adjusted to the light, I look at my right arm to find an IV needle transferring blood in me. Now I know that I am in a hospital, but why and how? I can hear two muffled voices arguing then all became clear.
“Your brother is fine Mr. Raeken. He is just resting.” I am guessing that’s the doctor
“How long does he need to stay on bed rest?” I recognize my big brother’s voice
“As long as he needs. Please call me when he wakes up so I can check on him and the sheriff wants to speak to him” His footsteps start to descend.
WAAAAA
WAAAAA WAAAAAAA
What is that? I am a hundred percent sure this isn’t the north wing of the hospital. There aren’t supposed to be babies here. The cries grow louder and my ears ring and I groan in pain. Next thing I know; darkness consumes me once again…

I find Jeremy sitting on the light brown armchair across the room. When he heard the shuffles of me sitting up on the bed, he looked at me from his phone. “Hey loser, how are you feeling?” He asks as he gets up from his seat and sits down at the edge of my bed by my legs.
“Tired, my head hurts” I complain and he chuckles lightly
“It should since you hit your head pretty hard” He informs me. He looks at me with worry in his eyes
“What happened to me Jer?” I asked curiously
“Well, a jogger was at the forest and he found you fainted on the ground, the back of your head covered in blood, so he did what any normal person would do and took you to the hospital himself. Thank god he was there at the right time because I couldn’t bear losing another sibling…” he sighs sadly. I caught a glimpse of pain in his eyes but they soon disappeared. “or we won’t be having this conversation right now. Oh, and they found a bite on the right side of your waist which caused the major blood loss” Jeremy explained. I roll up my shirt and see a bandage with bloodstains covering my wound.
“What attacked me, Jeremy?” I ask again
“We don’t know Cyrus. The sheriff’s department are investigating.” He answers in a worried voice and smiles sadly “I’m going to get something to eat, do you want anything Cy?” He asks as he got up from the bed.
“Nah, I’m good bro” I answer and watch my brother go out of the room.
A nurse knocks at my door ten minutes after my brother left with pills and a new bandage
“Hello, Mr. Raeken. I need you to take these pills, they will help ease up the pain. Then I need you to lie down so I can change the old bandage to the new one” She instructs me with a smile on her face.
I nod and do as I was told.
Once the nurse removes the bandage. Shock is written all over her face. My wound appears to have healed only small scratches are left. She runs to call the doctor, I know I am supposed to stay and wait but I shoot out of bed and get the hospital gown off and put on my clothes which Jeremy left for me before he went to get food. Something didn’t feel right. The sleeves of my shirt are tight around my biceps, it reached to the point where it ripped. I let out a frustrated groan as this was one of my favourite shirts. Who cares anyway? There were two places for me to get out from: the front door, which I could easily be caught and have tests done on me, or the window. I’ll take the window. Luckily, I was admitted to one of the rooms on the ground level. I opened the window quietly so no one can hear me, and leap out. I look around to determine where I am and which way I can take to go back home. I took off running faster than I ever ran before in my life. It is an unusual experience, but it feels amazing. The feeling of the wind on my face as I ran, the voices fading away as if I were alone in the world. I never felt more alive.

Its night and I am in my room lying on my bed thinking, replaying the events that occurred in the past 13 hours. Taking me away from my thoughts, I hear the doorbell ring. Maybe it’s my pizza, I thought. I travel down the stairs and open the door.
“Is Cyrus Raeken in here?” the man asks in a thick British accent as emerges from the dark.
“Who’s asking?” I ask with a new sense of confidence
“My name is Jake. I am here to talk to Cyrus.”
“I am Cyrus. What do you want?”
“You don’t know, do you?”
“Know what?”
