Chapter 1
Have you ever not wanted to do something, because ultimately you knew it was a bad idea? You just get a feeling in the pit of your stomach like if you do this, you’ll surely regret it. Adelaide couldn’t explain it, she just knew going to a party in the rich part of town with her best friend was not going end well. Yet, there they stood in front of the huge house that had music blasting you could hear from the next block over. People stood around in the beautifully cut grass, talking and drinking and then there was Adelaide and Jane two girls from the slums whom you could easily pick out of the party.
“Please lets just go.” Adelaide begged Jane. She had on a short dress and hooker heels as thats what Jane requested she wear. She pulled at the hem of the dress, it was too short for her long legs.
“No, come on. We’re already here lets just see what all the fuss is about.” Jane pulled her arm and they headed for the large brown double doors. Jane flung one of the front doors open and they stepped in. Adelaide was in awe, she had never been in a house this nice before. The floors were shiny marble, a large round table held a beautiful array of flowers and some stray solo cups. There were two large spiral staircases on either side of her leading up to the second floor.
“Wow.” She whispered. Jane mumbled something in response and pulled her along into the house. It was packed with people, mostly around her age. They found their way to the large kitchen and grabbed a drink.
“Okay, we need to find Kent.” Jane took a sip of her drink and scanned the kitchen.
“I’d love to help with that except… I don’t know what Kent looks like.” Adelaide reminded.
Kent Lowry, the heir to the three Lowry Lexus car dealerships in Calabasas California had recently taken an interest in Jane, the cute little spit fire from Newbury Park. Kent didn’t care if she had money or not, he had plenty for the both of them. Jane wasn’t worried about the money being an issue as much as his family and friends not taking a liking to her, so to prove her wrong Kent invited her to come to a party being thrown by one of his best friends.
“Jane!” Both girls heads turned to see the blonde haired blue eyed Lexus prince approaching them.
“Hi!” Jane threw her arms around him and squeezed tightly.
“Enjoying the party?” He asked as she pulled away and gave him a quick peck on the lips.
“Yeah so far.” She shrugged and bit her lip.
“This is Adelaide, my best friend.” Kent went in for a hug and Adelaide stuck her hand out to shake.
“Sorry.” She mumbled and a blush formed on her face, Kent shook her hand with a chuckle.
“No worries, its nice to meet you Adelaide. Jane has told me so much about you.” Kent seemed nice so far, not stuck up in the slightest, Adelaide let her guard down a tad.
“She’s told me a lot about you as well.” She gave a warm smile and sipped her drink.
Adelaide hadn’t migrated from the kitchen at all throughout the night, she babied her second drink and every once in a while made small talk with someone getting a refill. Kent and Jane had long gone off to meet some of Kent’s other friends. Adelaide declined to tag along. She didn’t feel like third wheeling.
“You’ve been standing there for a while. Are you waiting for someone?” A mans voice came from behind her, she looked around to make sure he was talking to her and smiled sheepishly.
“Uhm, my friend she’s with her boyfriend I didn’t feel like being a third wheel so I figured i’d just wait for her.” The man leaned against the counter facing her, he was tall with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was handsome and by the looks of his outfit he was definitely rich.
“Ahh, so you’re just gonna stand here and be a wallflower all night?” He teased.
Adelaide blushed, she wasn’t an extrovert by any means and she was honestly surprised she’d made small talk with as many people as she had already.
“I’m Julian.” He stuck his hand out for her to shake.
“Adelaide.” She placed her hand in his and gave it a firm shake, surprisingly Julian didn’t let go but placed the back of her hand to his lips and planted a soft kiss. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Adelaide.”
She retracted her hand quickly, her face heating up again.
“Who invited you?” He asked eyeing her suspiciously.
“What do you mean?” Her eyes widened at the sudden change in his mood.
“I think I would have remembered inviting such a beautiful woman to my party.” Julian was a good flirt, and he already had Adelaide eating out of the palm of his hand.
“Oh, Kent… He’s my friends boyfriend. This is your house?” She asked in disbelief.
“So you’re Jane’s friend?” He laughed.
Adelaide gave him a puzzled look, what was that supposed to mean?
“Kent told me Jane brought a hot friend and she’d be around somewhere.” He elaborated.
Adelaide’s face warmed again and she swatted at his arm. “Stop.”
“Come on, I want to show you something.” Julian grabbed her hand and for the first time that night, she left the kitchen.
