Loss - Isabella POV

Lying in a field of flowers, my nose being assaulted by the pleasant aroma of the wildflowers around me. Looking up at the clear blue sky and feeling a light breeze caress the exposed skin of my arms, legs and face while loose strands of my jet black hair tickling my nose. I close my eyes with a blissful sigh as it escapes my throat feeling the warm September sun kiss every inch of my body. It was easy to forget when and where, to get lost in loving embrace of Mother Nature.

I sighed again opening my eyes and seeing it was almost sunset. My eyes widened and I got up in a hurry to run home. Mama is going to be mad at me, I thought to myself. I was suppose to limit the hours I have outside to three a day and that was pushing it. Mama says bad people are after us, after me. She tries her best to keep me safe but we both know that we will get caught. I just hope that day never comes.

The house comes into view and there was something nagging at me the closer I got. Everything was quiet. Not even the crickets were chirping. I ran to the house quickly, but something was wrong, I could feel it. Coming to the front door, I quickly looked over every detail to see if something was amiss. Nothing. Everything was how it should have been. Walking in the front door, Mama was getting dinner ready as usual. But her face was tense and eyes wider then they should have been.

As soon as Mama saw me, she grabbed a pen and pad that was beside the fridge, acting like she was putting something away and started talking to me.

“Bella, where have you been? You know I don’t like you staying out that long.” As soon as she started talking, Mama was writing something on the pad. I knew my gut feeling was right as she stepped away to stir what was on the stove top.

Keeping my voice as normal as possible. “Sorry Mama. I was in the fields soaking up the sun. I guess I just lost track of time.” I said while I walked forward to grab a glass that we kept in the cabinets beside the fridge, I averted only my eyes to looked down for a second to see what she had written. We are being watched. Was all it said in her hurried handwriting. I fought the urge to look around knowing whoever was watching had eyes on the house.

Next thing I knew, the door was being thrown open by a man in black. He was handsome to the point it seemed like the Gods themselves had created them. I only got a short look at him before my mother pulled me behind her, making me drop the glass as it shattered on the floor. No one paid attention to it seeing more pressing matters at stake. The look in her eyes, I will never forget. Fear and longing, quietly saying goodbye to me as she looked behind her to me, “Go Isabella. You know what to do.” Then turning her attention back to the man.

I didn’t want to leave her. I wanted to stay but I knew I had no chance of fighting him off. I was a teenager while he was a full grown adult. I just looked at my mother, my feet unwilling to move. My mother sensing that I had not moved did not stop looking at the guy in front of her. Raising her voice, resolve clear in it like she already accepted her fate. “Isabella, you need to go. NOW!!”

This was the only time I was allowed to break the rules my mother had given me. I rushed out of the room with supernatural speed and out the back door grabbing a bag with different chemicals we had kept there when this did happen. It masked my scent so I couldn’t be tracked. There was a cellar beside the back door and I hurried to open it. Climbing down the steps, I closed the door quietly as possible and locked it. Made my way to the back of the cellar, I opened a hatch that matched the walls and would have missed it if I didn’t know what I was looking for. It was only big enough for a small person, my mother barely fit through it. On the other side was a maze of tunnels that me and my mother made knowing this day was coming, making sure we were ready for it.

Instead of fleeing like I was told to do, I could bring myself to move a single step forward. I just sat on the hard packed ground, slowed my heart rate and listened for my mother’s voice and the man with her. My mother said that I wasn’t normal. I was special but not to use the things that came along with it, people wouldn’t understand and bad men would come to take me away. I grew older and I understood these things and times like these I was allowed to use the abnormal speed, strength, and hearing. So I used them. Tuning in on the voices above me wasn’t hard. I had practiced when no one was around or in my bedroom.

“You know, she really shouldn’t have done that. Just makes it worse on her.” I hear the man said.

“It’s better for her to live her life instead of your Masters.” my mother said. I could hear defiance in her voice.

I hear a low animistic growl and then the man’s voice louder than before. “YOU KNOW NOTHING!!” the sounds of steps followed and then stopped. “But then again, you were just a brood human. Nothing more. Your propose was to birth hybrids like your daughter. To be trained as soldiers or spies. Hybrids, the next generation. All the powers of our kind with the look of a human. Perfect to go unnoticed in the human world. Wouldn’t you say?”

I heard my mother spit followed by another low growl. “Seems like you disagree.” I heard him sigh like he was hoping my mother would give a different answer. “You should have stayed a brood human. They are always taken care of, not wanting for anything. Can’t have a weak hybrid. Oh well...” the man growled again but this time, it was different. Then my mother’s scream came. I wanted to go to her and almost did but I knew it would not change anything, all I could do was cover my ears and silently let tears fall from my face as I pulled my knees up to my chest. Forehead on my knees and rocking myself back and forward while my mother’s screams filled my ears, until they started to ring.

I awoke with a start and a pair of eyes staring back at me.

Author’s Note: So, I am trying this story again but in a very different way. I had a story called Forbidden Love on my old account but I guess after the rework of Wattpad’s site, my account and stories were gone. So here is my second attempt and.... I hope you guys like it.
