Dear Friends,
The North Western Railway has a long history of locomotive technology, with many engines from the 1850s all the way into the 21st century. Young or old, these iron horses, oil guzzlers, and electrics have worked hard for many years.
But it hasn’t always been the case. Why? Let me explain…
The summer of 2007 had been stressful for the engines on the Island of Sodor; a visiting diesel caused all kinds of trouble and nearly succeeded in having a steam engine from an older railway company scrapped, but a certain blue tank engine and his friends saved her from certain doom.
Sir Stephen Topham Hatt was proud of all his engines, and he ordered that the diesel be withdrawn from service. I went to those who were involved, and told some very interesting stories! Thomas’ side of the story was the most interesting, and told me of the Lady of Sodor.
For an old engine, she’s young at heart, and is grateful for Thomas and his friends. “If not for them, I’d have ended up as scrap,” Lady told me, “but I’m lucky for Thomas – he’s a great friend to have around,” she added proudly. After I hearing everyone’s point of view, I pieced them together as one big story.
I hope you enjoy reading of one of Sodor’s biggest adventures as much as I enjoyed writing it too!
