Chapter 1

Mile's POV

0

I walked down the hallway, just like every other school morning. I opened my locker, and rotated my binders as usual. The most untypical thing happened. She walked behind me. Her smell caught my attention. My nose was drawn, causing my head to jerk towards her. She passed me, heading towards the office. I'd never seen her, i didn't know her name. She's beautiful. Her black curls draped perfectly around her face, and she wore sweatpants that no one would call "attractive." Her old Converse needed replaced, but they fit her style. She smelled like lavender, it was heavenly.

I wondered if she knew i existed, probably not. I'd have to make the first move, i didn't exactly appreciate that. I wasn't popular, but i wasn't the weird kid, more inbetween. She looked back and i admired her green eyes. I chewed on my lip, still looking. Someone from behind tapped my shoulder.

"Hey, man. You checking out Riley?" Abe said.

"Riley?" I repeated. Her name is Riley. I loved it, because it fit her perfectly.

"Yea. She's sort of new, i guess. She got here two weeks ago."

"Ah. Yea, i guess i was. I don't know, I've just never seen her before." I said. I didn't want to make it obvious. I scoffed, then went about to the rest of my morning.

***

I was on my way to rotate my binders again, thinking of Riley. I heard a thud, and another noise from around the corner. Once i reached where the sound came from, there she was, right in front of me. She dropped her binders, her papers flew everywhere. For one person, it'd be overwhelming to clean up all alone. I crouched down beside her and helped pick up her papers, putting them in the correct binders.

"Thank you. So much." She said. She chuckled, then shoved the binders in her bookbag.

"Welcome. I- I'm Miles." I said, holding out my hand. Her voice sounded like bells, it was so cute.

"Oh, hi. I'm Riley." She grabbed my hand and shook it firmly, i wanted to touch her more. I was sad that it ended. She was confident, as if she'd known me her whole life. I liked that, that she wasn't scared or too nervous.

"Cool. I'll see you later?" I asked.

"Yep. Bye." She said.

"Bye, Riley." I waved. I loved the way her beautiful name rolled perfectly off my tongue. I needed to calm down, i just net her. I'm acting stupid, there's no such thing as love at first sight.

***

I was still debating on whether or not I'd talk to her again, whether i was too sissy or I'd grow up and enjoy it. When the final dismissal bell rang, i immediately got up from my desk and jogged out. I walked out and waited. When i got out, she walked out a little after. She walked with... Five different guys?

Please don't tell me I'm interested in a hoe.

She couldn't be. The way she dresses, walks, everything. There's no way. She got on the blonde's back, he was the tallest. I hated the way his thumbs gently caressed her thighs through her pants. I was doomed, she was already taken. She actually looked happy with him, though. The smile on her face showed it all. I was jealous. I hated the feeling- desiring something that you know you could never have, or deserve. You wanted that thing or person all to yourself. The brown headed kid just a little shorter than the blonde, offered her a ride on his back. He said something else that was inaudible, and she jumped off the blonde. He ran around like a total idiot, and almost slipped and fell in a puddle. A black car erased my view of the two, so i gave up and pulled out my phone to find something to do. The blonde left with her in his new, shiny white truck.

I'd love to do that.

Sharda: This reads like if it's the author's first book. There were a lot of missing things to make the story feel real. I appreciated the good grammar and the storyline was good. It just needed some more, the book felt a bit rushed.
