Time doesn’t heal anything, it just teaches us how to live with the pain…

She wakes up covered in cold sweat from another one of her endless nightmares. They’ve been gone for over a year now, but they’re back and she doesn’t know why. Seeing as it is already 6 in the morning she decides that it is best for her to begin getting ready for school.

Kaila Henderson, she had pale green eyes, light freckles dusted her tan skin and jet black hair adorned her head. For being a 5 feet tall girl she wasn’t like most others, she loved to exercise and keep herself extremely fit, she mastered combat sports. She was generally a calm and kind person, but there was one thing she didn’t like the most about herself. She had a very short temper and there were certain things that triggered her the most. She was never good at arguing with words, she loved using her fists to fight. It’s hard having to be nice to people and smile all day, which is why she released her frustration through fighting and also art.

After showering she goes into her closet to pick out an outfit that doesn’t have stains on it but that’s impossible because all her clothes have paint stains on them as this girl is always painting. She gets dressed in ripped baggy jeans that have yellow paint splatters all over them and a sleeveless checkered crop top. She pulls on her white converse and hops downstairs to eat breakfast. She says good morning to her aunt and uncle.

Both her parents died when she was younger, she still remembers that day, it will forever be ingrained in her brain but she chose not to tell anyone. Soon after they died her aunt and uncle took her in and she’s been living with them since. Her parents were extremely rich but she didn’t care for any of that except the one thing they left behind for her. Her jet black lambo. This girl wasn’t one to fawn over money or materialistic things but to her, her car meant the world, it was the last thing that connected her to her parents.

“So what’s for breakfast?” she questions sitting at the dinner table, just then she felt someone ruffle her hair before sitting down next to her.

“You excited for your first day at school?” her cousin questioned sitting next to her. She’s been homeschooled all her life but she decided she wanted a change, so she’s going to start going to school with her cousin starting today.

Her cousin Caleb is 16, same as her, both of them are going to be juniors in high school this year. He was tall, almost 5’ 8”, he had dark blue eyes, he was toned and fit having had to practice and exercise with Kaila all the time, but it was also good for him. Caleb and Kaila were almost inseparable, they were closer than best friends.

“I mean you’ll be there with me right?” Kaila questioned looking at him.

“Of course Kai, I’m your best friend, I’m your only friend can’t have you eating lunch alone can we?”

Kai lightly punched him on his arm for his joke, but smiled to herself knowing she wouldn’t have to go through the day alone.

“Alright the bread has been toasted by the toasting machine, now grab your breakfast and hurry or you’ll be late to school.” Kai laughed at her uncle’s antics before grabbing her bread and backpack and walking out with Caleb. They both got inside his car seeing as Kai never drove her car anywhere. Soon they were driving off the school. P.S. They live in Georgia and you can get your license at 16 in Georgia.

As soon as she stepped out of Caleb’s car, she felt all eyes on her. Caleb put a protective arm around her shoulder and led her in. They were a bit early to school but it was perfect seeing as it gave Kai enough time to collect her schedule and find her way around the school. After getting her schedule Caleb ran off to meet his friends but not before making sure that Kaila was fine and didn’t need help.

“Just text me if you need anything okay?” he states before running off.

After he left, Kaila took a look at her schedule, on her way to find her locker.

After putting her things in her locker making sure to take out a notebook, her pencil case, her phone and her headphones, she closed it walking off to her first class which happened to be Art today. Kai sighed happily seeing this as an amazing way to start off her first day since she happened to love art. SHe hopped along the hallway listening to music with a smile on her face. She was completely oblivious to all the stares she was receiving.

She suddenly stopped walking when she noticed she was about to bump into someone, so she just spun out of their way and continued walking when she saw that the crowd had parted like the red sea and everyone was staring at her. She looked behind her to see three guys staring at her, with the one in the middle who seemed to be the leader. She wasn’t going to deny to herself that he was probably one of the most attractive people she’s ever seen. She didn’t realize herself staring at him in awe until she felt someone drag her away.

Xavier King, the guy that always seemed to have a scowl on his face, with grey eyes, toned tan skin and black hair that adorned his head, no one could deny his beauty. One look at him and everyone was mesmerized, but they also feared the dangerous aura that surrounded him.

He was ready to scowl at the person and maybe even get mad at them for bumping into him when he saw a girl who looked like she was about to run into him. But nonetheless, to say he was shocked when the girl gracefully spun out of his way would be an understatement. His friends were shocked as well. Usually girls would run into him on purpose, but seeing his spin out of his way so gracefully shocked them all. They all turned around to see the girl stop and look back at them. Xavier was taken aback by her beauty. He had never seen a girl so mesmerizing. He was snapped out of his thoughts when he saw her get dragged away by a guy, he had an urge to run after her, but refrained from doing so. Instead he just continued on his way to class.

Caleb walked Kai to her art class making sure she didn’t get lost.

Kai walks into the class just as the bell rings, she finds a seat in the back of the classroom near the window. She zones out staring out the window and is brought back to consciousness when she feels a tap on her shoulder.

She looks behind her to see a guy standing there.

“Hey, uh, is it ok if I sit over here?” He asks her pointing to the seat next to her.

“Of course, you don’t have to ask me.” Kai states smiling at him.

He seems like a nice person she thinks to herself before introducing herself to him.

“Hey, what’s your name? Mine’s Kaila, but you can call me Kai, also would you like to be my friend?” Kai is a very straightforward person so it may have shocked him since she was so abrupt. He then proceeds to introduce himself.

“My name is Alex. Not to sound rude but why do you want to be friends with me?” he asks, staring at her.

“Well honestly, I just feel a positive aura from you and I think we could get along great.” He smiled, glad to hear that. They weren’t doing anything in class today, so Kai and Alex just got to know each other and Kai was very excited for having made a friend. They found out that they have a lot in common which made Kai more excited.

Xavier on the other hand, couldn’t stop thinking about the girl he had seen in the hallway earlier not realizing that they were both sitting just a few seats away from each other.
