huyen
the large school building stood before me. it’s vibrant red walls made it stand out like a scar, catching your notice like the pain that caused it.
i shuffled my feet and squeezed my eyes shut as i took quick, shallow breaths.
"it's okay huyen. it's not like you're going to one of the most prestigious schools in korea. oh wait, you are."
i sucked in air loudly as i let out a whimper of fear and anxiousness.
after minutes of me anxiously rambling, i resolved to finally enter the school's building. as soon as i walked in, i froze in place as i finally noticed my surroundings. the ceiling was arched high above our heads and the floors were tiled with marble. the second floor was visible with railing preventing the fall of any students.
the lockers lined against the walls could barely be considered lockers. they resembled closets with the fancy designs. the only similarity with lockers they had was the fact that it kept stuff inside behind a lock. a high tech one, yes, but still a lock.
peers of animosity, curiosity and emotions i couldn't decipher were directed towards me. my mind was racing with random thoughts as i admired the interior.
once i realised how long i was gawking, i quickly scrambled through the hallways until i entered a secluded, dark corridor. the design was still the same; gorgeously appointed and modern. however, the feeling of eyes watching my every move was long gone.
despite the slight comfort i felt from leaving the range of those judgmental eyes, i panicked for a different reason.
i was lost.
my stressed, maniac laughter filled the abandoned halls as i crouched down out of frustration.
"great. fan-fucking-tastic. my first day here and i already fucked it up."
my eyes watered as all the anxiety i had built up was released. my eyelids became puffier by the second and my face red and blotchy.
why did i have to come halfway through the school year. everything is going to shit and i can't do anything to stop it. fucking hell. damn it all, i just-
the muffled sounds of a piano made my thoughts come to a halt. despite my very recent mental breakdown, - may i remind you, that i was still in the process of - i tried to calm down, breathe (like my therapist told me to), and steadied myself mentally.
i held in my cries as i made my way towards the beautiful sounds, not knowing why i was drawn to it in the first place.
