Prologue
Wait, what's happening?
He swirled, feeling thickening around him. Scared beyond words, he could only cover his face with his arms. He opened his eyes to check what was wrong, why everything felt strange all of a sudden, and saw that he was surrounded with fog which thickness he couldn't fathom.
His fear went away quickly, replaced with dread. This couldn't be happening! If it was what he thought, then it was so so bad.
Was it perhaps... the Awakening?
Whereby he would change, lose all his powers and become... a... a human! An ordinary human!
That made him even more terrified. He should've known, all the signs were there to be seen, why had he ignored them so much, so many a times at that.
A sharp, deep pain tore down his abdomen and he clutched his stomach, screaming in pain and fury. With his face turned upwards, he saw the sky.
Beautiful, he thought.
The scream seemed to have dissolved the pain. He let go and for once became conscious of his surrounding. The fog was beginning to clear.
He staggered, feeling weak and held something for support. It touch was rough and hard.
Could it be...?
He looked. A tree!
At that moment, his eyes bulged in recognition, he was in the humans world. This realization brought him very close to collapsing in terror.
He had always had one weakness, and that was his inability to survive forever in this world. His immortal life was nonexistent here. He was sure he wouldn't... couldn't last long anymore.
But how much time did he have left, how long would he be able to hold onto his sacred, cherished existence. He didn't even know and couldn't be sure of anything. It could be days, weeks, months, years or even decades, but then, it could also be possibly that he might end up lasting only for some hours, minutes... even seconds.
That scared him out of his wits and he fell on his knees, hopeless. The pain began again. He looked towards his abdomen and saw green shade of smoke rising from there. Doesn't that mean...
He closed his eyes, dizzy from stress. In just a few minutes he'd gone through all sorts of things.
He had felt pain, that had never happened. Nothing could be worse than this and he should've this was coming.
Should've known it was gonna happen.
He fell on his back into dust, sand and decaying leaves.
Is this how I die then? But I... I'm a good Omri. This shouldn't be happening to me.
He squeezed shut his eyes in frustration and a drop of tear slided out of them. It was his first time crying in his entire immortal life.
He heard footsteps, unsure ones and knew it was only one person. All his hopes came rushing back. He believed he had more chance of survival if had someone next to him at this point. That would be why he was dropped in the thick woods where there was a very slim chance of anyone finding him.
An unexplainable sort of power drove through him and he opened his eyes, sitting up immediately.
Someone screamed.
It was a girl, after she screamed, she'd hit her head on a tree and fainted. There was sudden peace and silence all over.
She looked really pretty even in her unconscious state. Her eyes were small and sported long eyelashes. She had a pointed nose and little full lips. Her long wavy hair dangled beside her oval face unto her shoulders. There was sweat on her forehead and also smudges of makeup here and there on her face.
He looked away. She reminded him of that person, the woman because of whom he was here, feeling pain, hopelessness and being scared of death.
He was in this state due to his woman's betrayal. He looked back at her and another drop of tear slided down his face, his cheeks, into the corners of his lips.
It was his second.
