Beginning of the end
Knock knock knock. I woke up to the sound of someone knocking at the door. It was 3am! I cursed under my breath an opened the door. The silver handle was cool to the touch and the grey wooden door opened once I tugged at it slightly.
On the other side of the door was a girl, slightly taller than me with muscly arms. Immediately my silver eyes were drawn to her almond shaped hazel ones. They were surrounded by long thick eyelashes that most girls would kill for. Stemming from somewhere beneath her shirt symmetrical green vine like tattoos snaked their way up opposite sides of her face meeting in the middle of her forehead, forming a tattoo in the shape of a stalk of wheat. Raven black hair fell to her waist, swaying slightly in the wind. She smiled, though it did not reach her eyes.
I stepped to the side, getting out of her way and allowed her inside. I lead her into the living room where my mother was waiting, even though she was not there before. My mother beckoned us near her and we sat opposite her. She smiled at me sadly, her eyes watering and nodded at the girl. "I'm Najalia. we are related." she said. Her eyes flashed emerald green for a second and they returned to their Hazel ones. "What did you just do with your eyes and why would you think we're related?" I asked. I knew she wasn't lying and I knew her eyes flashed. "it's true" she said, talking to my mother. All my mother did was nodd shakily. "how lo-" Najalia was cut off by the sound of a door being ripped off its hinges.
"Get behind me!" she shouted and my mother and I ran behind her. Then there was a sniffing sound. Pause. The sound of hooves closed in on us. Najalia raised her arms and thick green vines broke up from under the floor as a monstrous beast started charging at us." Run! " she shouted and I started running with my mother over to the back door but she stopped me. "I can distract it and you can run. You are more important than me" she told me and I knew it was the truth. Tears slid down my face as my mother ran towards the creature and Najalia ran towards me. "come on!" she shouted and we ran like God himself was after us.
