Chapter 1

When Alexandria was 15 she started to hear quiet murmuring in her head, she pushed it in the back of her mind to ignore it. But it never went away, in fact, it got louder as the years passed. She saw every doctor and every therapist but nobody knew what was wrong with her. When she first went to the therapists they diagnosed her with anxiety, and she believed that for a while. But as it got worse she went back, this time they told her she had depression, but that only confused her more.

I stared at the busy streets of New York from the rooftop of a random apartment complex. My eyes flickered around scanning the street below me. As I focused I saw three men dressed in black suits, while the guy in the middle was holding a briefcase.

Completely inconspicuous, I thought sarcastically and snorted internally.

I pulled out a small drone and a pair of glasses from my pocket and set the drone to follow the men. I slipped the glasses on as quickly as I could. With these glasses, I could see what the drone saw, as well as what was in front of me. I started to climb down the fire escape ladder. When my feet hit the alleyway, I rushed to the targets who stopped close by in another alleyway. I shoved my way through the crowds of people. If I were in another city I would have been questioned for what I was wearing. But since there were thousands of costume display shows I was fine.

I stopped around the corner of the alleyway the guys were in.

“Do you have it?” A guy said.

“Yes.” Another man said. I heard a click and some shuffling around.

“Nobody followed? Correct?” The first guy asks.

“No, sir.” The second guy said a little hesitantly.

I took that as my cue. “I guess I’m sneakier than I thought,” I said, jumping out from behind the wall I was hiding from. Even though I sounded confident on the outside, I was cringing at how stupid that sounded. They all pointed their guns at me as soon as they heard me. One of the bodyguards started firing at me, but I was too quick. I bent backward grabbing my gun from my boot. I opened the barrier in my mind that usually stopped the thoughts I heard from people. I heard everything they were going to do. So I dodged the multiple bullets they fired.

“If I move left she’ll miss.” One of the bodyguards thought.

“Please, I doubt she’s good with a gun.” The first guy thought.

I soon grew frustrated and I shot the first guy in the legs. Next, I aimed at the legs of the guy holding the case. When I shot the guy, one of the “Bodyguards” (which if you ask me, sucked at their job) turned towards him. The other bodyguard moved left trying to dodge me. But luckily for me, I knew what he was doing. I shot him and then the other bodyguard.

Once they were all down, I checked to make sure they were passed out. I grabbed the briefcase and left the guys to the agents who soon arrived.
