The Day I Spoke Up
Hi, my name is Lea Honda I'm twelve years of age and I'm a dancer! I take pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop, and modern! I guess you can say that I'm a pretty busy girl, I rarely have time to myself during the week.
The bad side of all this is that nobody really thinks about how I am feeling, like anyone cares anyway. My parents are traveling pastors; they are never home so I cannot have that one and one talk with my mom. My nanny does not speak English so it does get pretty lonely around here, my friends do ask what is on my mind and stuff like that, but if I tell them they would not listen. I can see why they have their own problems and I have mine.
Today is my thirteenth birthday, I went to the store after pointe class and got myself a chocolate cake with candles. My nanny was on Thanksgiving Vacation, and my parents are in Oklahoma helping feed the needy. I am really proud of my parents for doing that, but I needed them here with me I miss that warmth they use to have when I was younger when we use to celebrate as a family. The last two Thanksgivings and Christmases my parents missed out on, my nanny would usually bring me to her house, but a family member is sick and she could not take me.
I went to the bathroom I took out my blade from a secret spot, and I started to cut my wrist. The scary thing is that I cannot feel it anymore, I got in my bathtub and I started to sob it felt go to finally let it all out of me.
My phone started to ring I picked it up, and I saw that it was Tohru my cousin from Japan she was wanting to face-time. I quickly brushed all my tears away and I answered.
"Happy Birthday Lea! I miss you so much!" Tohru cheered
Wow someone actually misses me, what a surprise I replied," Thanks Tohru it is really nice to see you face to screen,"
She giggled I liked it when she did that, she has such a cute giggle. Tohru realized that something was wrong real quickly, her smile dropped she asked," Lea is everything okay over there?"
Without even thinking I showed her my wrist, she mumbled," Oh my goodness, Lea what happened?"
"I do not know what is wrong with me Tohru, I need you right now and I'm so happy that you called," I sobbed
There was a long silence, and I did not like it one bit it was scaring me, and it was probably scaring Tohru as well. What was she thinking? Was she going to tell my parents? Or worse is she going to hang up and think I'm a freak.
"Tohru, I am not okay, look at me I am a mess," I sobbed
"I will find a solution Lea, I do not want to lose you for right now it is ten thirty in your time zone so get some sleep," Tohru soothe
We both ended the call, I laid there for a little bit wondering what is she going to do to help me she lives across the world from me there is not much she can do about it.
What am I going to do? I have to help her, I do not want to tell her parents because she would hate me for it.
"Ms. Honda is everything alright?" Yuki asked
"Yes, hey Yuki do you think Shigure will let us have another guest here?" I asked
He stood there for a little bit he answered," Yeah, why what happened with your cousin?"
"I'll explain later, right now let me go talk to Shigure!" I replied
I went downstairs I asked," Shigure do you have a moment?"
"Yes Tohru, what do you need?" he asked
I took a couple deep breaths, how was I going to convince him to let me have my cousin here for a while?
"My cousin is in trouble, mentally, she is hurting herself and she is having a ruff time since we live in rural Japan do you think she can stay here for a while?" I asked
Please Shigure I want to keep her safe from harm, she is on the borderline of committing suicide I do not want to lose her like that because Lea and her mom are the only family I have left. My grandpa died a few weeks ago from natural causes, and I do not want to lose Lea just yet.
"Do you need help paying for the ticket?" Shigure asked
"No, I will pay for it or Lea's parents will," I answered
I hope her parents agree about this, I will be really bummed out if she cannot come over here.
"She can come and stay with us, I will get another bed for her," Shigure answered
I am so happy now that I can help her, all I need to do is call her parents and hope they agree! I think they will because Lea tells me that they are never home.
That night I was looking at the sky I cheered," Do not worry Lea, I promise I will keep you safe from harm and that is what I am going to do!"
