A Virtual Reality

"The story is dark, but holds onto the hope that despite the technology maze that draws us further and further away from the reality of our planet as Gaia and our roots in in the natural world, we can still fight back and hold onto our humanity. The technical world of twenty years from now is captured well, but it’s the life of the criminal dead-end street world, the psychedelic experience and the emotional intensity experienced when one is responsible for the death of a lover that makes this book memorable. I’d like to know more about the writer but their anonymity is impossible to crack."

A Virtual Reality

"I had the pleasure of reading the book for the first time some years ago under another title. I loved it so much that I optioned it and wrote a screenplay. Came within a hair of selling it as a movie. But, truth is, the story was ahead of its time, and Hollywood is not the most forward thinking business. At the time, the idea that the world would become so dangerous, only vacations in the cyber world would be real seemed like fantasy.. Hmmm. Looked around lately? "A Virtual Reality" is a far different book from the early drafts that I read. The story is much better now. But the world vision that drives the story, the action, the characters, have been building inside the author's head for a long time. Neil's research and knowledge is impeccable. In the beginning, the story outpaced the writing style. But draft after draft has honed the writing to where style can hold its on with story. The book has a number of memorable characters. As a writer myself, I know how difficult it is to create good characters. In a book like "A Virtual Reality" pacing also is important. The story moves fast but slows down at times to let the reader breath and think. That adds depth.. Another thing tricky to get right is the mix of action, information, and vision. A world view. A story big enough to handle larger issues. It's like painting on a giant canvas. Neil does this well. I am a fan. You will be too after reading "A Virtual Reality." As for making the book into a movie, well, maybe that time has come also."

A Virtual Reality

" John Lilly’s Solid State Conspiracy writ large. A mash of William Gibson, Dashiell Hammett and Phillip K. Dick. Very dense, very pulp and a fast read. Neils Inshan could be the Jim Thompson of Virtual Reality."
