Chapter 1

“What?”

No. No. No. No. No. No.

Don’t break down, don’t break down, don’t break down, don’t break down, don’t break down.

DON’T BREAK DOWN, SERENA, I’m telling you if you do I will make myself drown in the bathtub and go to heaven where I can join my fami-

I’m breaking down.

“Why? Why do you want to? What d-did I do w-wrong?” Damn. I just had to stutter, didn’t I?

Then the bastard finally spoke.

“Sorry, but I just got too board of our relationship. I fell in love with someone else while you were...um...on your business trip.” He looked me and made eye contact. “She is now the woman of my dreams, and I’m sorry for wasting my time with you.”

What?

WHAT?

HE TOOK ME TO ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE RESTAURANTS IN THE CITY JUST TO BREAK UP WITH ME?!

And here I was, sitting down and waiting for him to propose. The more I thought about it, I got more mad.

Sorry for wasting my time with you? WELL, I DON’T THINK THAT YOU ARE IN A POSITION TO SAY SORRY FOR WASTING YOUR TIME. What about me? I WASTED SEVEN YEARS ON YOU AS WELL. I was raging inside, but decided to keep my voice level and curt.

“What did you just say to me? You HORRIBLE bastard.”

By now, I had gotten the attention of many other people in the restaurant.

“I. Cannot. Believe. That I wasted seven years on you,” I said as I got up from out of my seat.

“Babe, please, just sit down and calm down.” Logan looked up to me with pleading eyes, begging for me to calm down and to stop attracting other people’s attention.

Babe? Sit down? Calm down?!

Oh no. I wasn’t having it today.

“DON’T YOU DARE CALL ME THAT. I have had enough of you. You really think that I can calm down? Hell no. I won’t and you better not ask me to. I don’t even think that you are in a position to ask me to do that. I don’t think that you should tell me to do anything!”

I grabbed my purse.

“Bye, you son of a bitch.”

As I started to walk away, tears finally started to blur my vision. I didn’t bother to even wipe them away because I just didn’t feel like it. I was tired of this.

But, before I could two steps away from the table, a rough hand wrapped around my wrist and harshly dragged me back to the table.

I let out a pained noise. “Get your hand off me, or else you will say goodbye to your hand.”

Logan started to whisper furiously.

“Serena, I hope I don’t have to ask you again. You know what will happen if you don’t sit down and listen to me.”

Oh no. Please no.

This bastard was blackmailing me?

Tears started to run down my cheeks, realizing that he could actually get me fired from my job that I had worked hard to earn.

I sat down and stared at the floor.

“Look, Serena, I’m sorry for breaking up with you but I couldn’t do this. Us. I know what kind of situation you have going on, with your parents and sisters dying in the fire, so I’ll help you financially after you move out of my house.”

I was speechless.

I was furious.

“What? Oh, no.” I dragged out the ‘no.’ “You will never do that. You better not find me, because if you do, I will personally disable your balls. Now excuse me.”

I quickly grabbed my bag and started walking fast away from our table. But I failed to see the outstretched foot.

I tripped on that foot and fell onto the expensive restaurant’s floor.

I sat still on the floor, trying my best to wake up from this nightmare, but it all failed. I wasn’t in a dream.

“SERENA. GET BACK HERE AND SIT DOWN.” Logan’s voice boomed throughout the restaurant.

Then, I heard footsteps getting near me, hoping that it wasn’t Logan.

“Hey. Are you alright?”

What?

That wasn’t Logan’s voice. Instead, Logan’s high pitched voice was replaced by a deep voice.

As tears still burned my vision, I slowly looked up.

An outstretched hand was faced towards me for me to take.
