Chapter 1 - Lilly
Desmond? What am I thinking? I’m not looking for love, true love, or cheesy romance. Desmond Mars, a loser and nerd, and me, a popular girl, are never together but then a famous model person, Daniel Mitchell, turns up in my high school.
Every day, I used to go to high school in Wisconsin, and I used to see the people who bullied my’ friend’, Desmond Mars, but I tried to stop them. Finally, he requested me to be quiet and protect my popularity level.
Becoming a friend with a nerd isn’t that bad, but someone threatens me to abandon Desmond or lose my fame. I was stupid to accept my place, and I felt sorry for him to get through this bullying.
Oh, sorry if I haven’t introduced you to myself, and the name is James, Lilly James.
I was about to open my locker door, and the people sounded shocked to see whatever was behind me, but the entrance door made me turn around to see who or what is it as I was surprised to see his face.
Desmond Mars came to my high school five months ago, which is strange because he seems like Daniel Mitchell if he gets no glasses. Daniel Mitchell is the most famous model, and he’s a prince of the world on the earth but not me; I didn’t find him attractive.
All I want is to find a friendly, open-minded, and kind boyfriend, but ‘he’ wasn’t here. Do you want to know how we become a friend?
Here it is!
Every time I arrived at High School, there was silence, but this season was very different. Everyone in high school was bullying someone I don’t know because he was here yesterday, and I bet this person was friendly.
I don’t know their name because I wasn’t here in school and at the shopping centre with my friends. They are not my friends; they are fake. I guess this person is new here. I saw my friends -my false ‘friends’ were bullying this person.
I started to walk toward where they stood and get through the coward.
“What’s going on?!” I questioned with my loud voice because I wanted them to hear me.
“Some geek, the name is Desmond Mars, he’s a loser, and he thinks he’s smartest in this fair land!” One of them mocks one of the Snow-White references.
How rude are they?! I’m one of these most intelligent people too, but I couldn’t correct them because I might remain mistreated if I fix it. They might forget my last term exam and get 100 points at everything in the school. I’m angry with them, but I can’t show them how I’m feeling.
“What kind of this name is so stupid?!” I shout to Desmond.
I like this name, but I know that I was pretending to be like one of them, the popular side, and I was not too fond of it when everyone bullied this unfortunate person.
I looked away from my pretended friend to see Desmond’s face, and I was confused.
Desmond? Do I know this person? No, I don’t know where he’s coming from, and he might be cute if he takes his glasses off.
“I have to go!” I shout to them as I make sure they listen to me.
I was about to walk away, but Shari Bill, one of my fake ‘friends’, the one who called Desmond loser, stopped me, grabbed my arm and pulled me toward where she stands.
Oh, no, she wants me to say some rude to Desmond! Oh, great!
With that, Shari pushes me through to a coward, and Desmond stands in the middle.
“No!” I pause when my gangs look at me with their confused face, and I sigh out nervously; I continue, “Alright, I will go!”
Oh, who am I kidding? Poor this young man, it’s for my popular level, and I’m sure he understands it! Oh, well!
I walk to look at this guy who wears nerdy clothes and wears glasses as he looks down on the floor. I gulp nervously, and I bend down to level our eye contact.
“Well, look who we have here? Some loser who thinks he’s smartest than us!”
I laugh aloud while everyone joins in laughter with me together as he looks up at me and looks shyly.
I feel sorry for him, but again, I’m sure he understands why I’m more like a popular girl in this school! He has lovely brown eyes.
“Nerd!” I call him while I give him my mask face and an evil smile; everyone high five me while I put my hand up in the air, and I turn around to see Desmond, “And... Loser, Desmond! What an idiot like his mum gave him this stupid name.”
Everyone let out their laughter in a burst, and I smile uncomfortably.
Why? Why do I say it?! I guess I was stupid.
Desmond notices me as I look unconformable with his confused face when I am a little shocked, and I look away from his face to see Shari as we laugh together. Then some of the jocks, as you all know, like football jocks, knock his books down and kick them as they walk past the books that were knockdown.
The first bell finally rings now, and it’s one of my favourite lessons, science. It’s not joking, dull, or you could tell that I’m partially a nerd, but people couldn’t say this because I’m wearing the most fashionable clothes, so my parents went on trips on business a lot. Of course, my parents couldn’t see me like this, but I always carefully took facetime when they called me.
“See you at lunchtime, loser!” One of these Jocks, Matt, says.
Everyone walks to get to their class, but I stand here and can’t move a little.
I was wondering why am I mean to Desmond? Huh! Yes, I’m the only sweetest, friendliest and kindest girl in high school, but never be meanest or bullying to someone who gets here as a new kid. Now..! That is never happening to me to someone like Desmond! It is for my population.
Desmond bent down and picked up his books as quickly as he could.
Poor him, he could hate me forever if I left him like this!
I looked around to see and made sure that nobody was there to see me as I started to pick up his notebook in front of me. When I did it, I began to walk to where he picked up his books and bent down to give them to him. He looks up at me with a surprised look, and then we stand up together in unison.
“Look, I’m so sorry about calling you that mean name,” I start to apologise.
He takes his notebook when he looks at his book, and he shyly looks down at the floor. Then everything went awkwardly silent, and we were standing here.
I’m trying to be kind to him, and it’s not because he feels not welcome to be here, but because someone like me bullied him.
I turned around to walk away when I sighed out of anger, and I went to the science classroom, which is on another side of this building. As I walk in, everyone applauds me, and then the second bell rings.
I wonder what’s happening in here? Someone told them what happened earlier.
“Way to go, Lilly.” Shari cheers.
I give them a fake smile as I walk to get my usual spot, the front seat, and I smile when I sigh out annoyingly. I look down at my desk, which is on my science book. A frown comes along on my face, and a teacher comes along.
It wasn’t a natural smile but fake, and I had never smiled like this before. Well, I guess Desmond hates me for now. Oh, yeah, I wonder what’s he doing in here and why is he here?
With that, someone came into this class and stood before me.
