"The years line up with when Europeans contacted the Japanese (1543, the earliest date in the book is in the 1550s) There are a lot of Japanese words used here that you probably have to look up, but with the setting, it's expected. Though I'm not sure if Shoji is supposed to be derived from chess or if that developed on its own. Considering the accuracy of the details, I'd imagine research is being done for this book, so that's good."
