Prologue

The rain poured as the young teen ran. Tears filled his eyes as he tried to not think about the cruel words. His lungs felt like they were on fire and his legs felt like Jell-O but on he ran. Only when he got to the abandoned house next on Cherry Tree Lane did he slow down. Very slowly, as if rethinking his decision, the teenager made his way to the door of the house. He looked back behind him, questioning if this was the right choice to make.

Every step closer to the door made his anxiety spike further. Thoughts ran through his head as he got down and crawled through the small hole in the boarded up door. His footsteps echoed and the floorboards creaked under his weight as he made his way quietly to the room where he and his friend hang out. Sadly, he will no longer be seeing his friend. He turned the handle to the door, wincing at the loud squeak as it opened. He walked into the room and shut the door behind him, not wanting to look at the noose he had hung up earlier that day.

With a shaky sigh, he stood in front of the chair, running his fingers through his hair as his green eyes darted around the room. Thunder cracked and lightning lit up the room for a few seconds before leaving it mostly dark again. The boy stepped onto the chair and stuck him head into the loop of the noose.

“I’m sorry Mama, I wasn’t strong enough. . .” The boy whispered as tears began to fall more. He kicked the chair from underneath him as another snap of lightning lit the room up. He took his last breath before he met Death.
