Prologue
In a world where cities started being built, and humans started destroying the forests, wolves have survived and avoided destruction. Forests were still common, and animals roamed free without fear of growing extinct by humans.
Stars sparkled in the sky like diamonds. The Moon shone brightly against the tops of the trees, illuminating the forest floor. Distantly, howls could be heard, filling the cool night with the depth of their voices. Wolves; Some people fear them, others look at them in awe.
The howls weaved in and out, fading and rejoining. Each wolf created a unique voice in the night, a harmony by itself, but greater together. Tonight was the start of a new life.
The Wolf King carried a pup to the cliff, surrounded by the pack. He sat down and carefully put the pup on the ground. The pup walked around a bit, and sat at the edge of the cliff, looking at the forest tree tops in the distance.
The pup put his little black muzzle to the sky, and in a wobbly voice, started howling. The father joined in too, weaving in and out to the other wolves' voices. Creating a great melody that filled the sky, they sang the Wolf Song to the stars.
The mother wolf walked up to the pup, and laid down around him, protecting him. The wolf pack circled the pup with wagging tails and took turns greeting the pup.
The father turned to the mother, worry in his silver eyes. "Our pup is going to be raised in a world where those two-legged creatures are going to capture the pack."
The father licked her muzzle. "Don't worry. I will protect him and the pack. I promise". He licked his pup, and the pup licked his muzzle in response. He snuggled closer to his parents for warmth and fell asleep.
The new Wolf King was born.
