Battle of Bunker Hill 1775
After the battle of Lexington and Concord, the patriot militia controlled the hills surrounding Boston. The patriots had heard through their spies that the British were planning to attack Bunker Hill to get into Boston.
They sent 1600 men to set up fortifications on Breed's Hill, which was closer to Boston and allowed them to overlook the Charles River where the British were arriving from. On June 17, 1775, General William Howe led 2600 British soldiers up Breed's Hill. William Howe was one of General Gage's top officers who was assigned the task of defeating the colonists at Bunker Hill. Despite an outward appearance of confidence and popularity with his troops, Howe had a rough and rugged outward-looking appearance, who privately often exhibited a lack of self-confidence.
He later became dependent on his older brother Richard. The latter was an officer in the Navy for advice and validation. The American militia held off two British charges but was finally forced to retreat on the third assault, which was led by Howe.
The fighting was savage and up-close. Men are gutted or bayoneted while others were shot in their tracks. However, while the British were victorious, they suffered heavy losses, with 226 men killed and 828 more wounded. As the men celebrated their victory, the moment was cut short as an arrow zip through the air and pierced one private's neck. The young soldier died instantly, still clutching his bloody wound. The rest of the unit was shocked at what had just happened. As the men look further up the hill, five unknown figures were wearing blue coats with red lacing and three-cornered hats. Not every patriot had surrendered.
Their faces were covered in black leather masks with small eye holes to see. They each wore black leather gloves and simple shoes—each one with different weapons. From looking at them, the soldiers could begin to see that two of the shadowy figures were slender in figure and short height against their three comrades who you could tell were tall and broadly.
As the British advanced further up the hill, General Howe spotted the masked individuals and halted the advancing troops. Clearing his throat, he yells at the unknown group in hopes of gaining their attention.
"You there, up on the hill, my name General William Howe of his Majesty's Army of Britain. We have you surrounded. If you surrender now, you will be treated fairly." The group remained motionless and did not reply to the General. The General cleared his throat again and echoed his message.
"I repeat if you surrender, you will be treated fairly!" Just as he finished his sentence, a massive giant fireball came crashing down onto him. He fell off his horse and screamed in pain as he tried to beat the fire off of him. All the men were overcome with halting fear. Questions raced through their minds.
Do they save their General? Put their lives on the line? No man murmured a sound for fear of being next. All they could do was watch their General burn in a blaze of red and yellow embers. One of the soldiers next to Howe was terrified.
"Bloody hell!!!! It's the devils that attack us!" The commander next to him hit the scarred soldier with the butt of his rifle. "Shut yer bleeding hole, ya filthy whelp, and fall to your duty." The soldiers slowly and cautiously fell into line and fixed bayonets.
"So much for being untouched, thanks, Cyrus," said Elizabeth. Cyrus simply cracked his knuckles and prepared for another fight. Mingan, the quiet one, notched another arrow and sighed. "You believe he is here. We left Jersey and Holloway behind in Lexington." Cyrus chuckled underneath his mask. "Don't worry; they'll show up. But before they do, let give our guests a warm welcome." As he opened his hands, fire formed in his palms, hotter than before. Elizabeth and Hannah got ready while the youngest Liam unsheathed his knives.
With the order of their commander, the soldier's raced up the hill to capture the five unknown soldiers. "Hannah, if you would." The young girl next to Elizabeth removed one glove and placed her bare hand on the soil, and in a matter of minutes, the soldiers felt themselves sink into the earth. The ground was suddenly morphed from hard dirt to sticky mud. Soldiers were falling in the mud, and their guns began to jam up in the process of their struggle. Out of the 2600 soldiers, only 190 of them were stuck in the mud and unfit for combat.
Those that did not get stuck in the mud continue charging up the hill, shouting at the top of their lungs. Just then, Cyrus unleashed fury upon the redcoats. He sprayed fire on them like water on a field, and nothing was safe from his fire. He then summoned forth a massive giant fireball and hurled it at the redcoats, engulfing many and burning them alive. The redcoats were shocked and horrified; they have never encountered anything like this in their military careers. However, their commanding officers would not allow them to retreat and forced them to continue marching upon the hill even though they were going up against an enemy they have never encountered before in their lives. Despite the sticky mud and fireballs, the redcoats finally reached the top of the hill, surrounding the five unknown soldiers. What happens next repeated itself in the nightmares of the foot soldiers who survived for the remainder of their lives.
As the soldiers aimed their muskets at the enemy, Mingan lowered his bow and slowly raised his hands in the air. The soldiers took this as a sign of surrender, with one officer guesting two men to arrest him. Cyrus and the others knew what Mingan was planning. Soon as the soldiers approach him, the young Iroquois quickly slams his fists into the ground. Time seems to stop all around him as a massive shock wave erupted from the impact and the soldier's approach and surrounding them away. The force is so powerful; it manages to push some soldiers back down the hill. With the soldiers dazed and confused, the siblings go on the offensive.
Liam turns invisible and starts killing redcoats left and right. One by one, soldiers fall victim to an unseen enemy. Elizabeth unsheathed her sword and pistol, and with Mingans help, the duo began attacking as well. Cyrus and Hannah used their powers to further terrify the soldiers around them. Just then, a "blood-curdling" scream fills the sky. Everyone looks up and sees nothing until one soldier lets out a yell of horror as he points to what made the sound. Landing heavily on the ground next to the five stood a creature that was only thought to be a myth.
The beast stood around seven feet tall, with the head of a goat, leathery bat-like wings, horns, and small muscular arms with clawed hands, cloven hooves, and a forked tail. Its skin was all red, and its eyes black with yellow slits. Its mouth possessed rows of sharp teeth all stained red. It was the devil of New Jersey.
Things for the soldiers went from horrendous to unimaginable. It appeared to the regiment that they have walked into a dark fantasy. Men were frozen in fear at the sight of this once thought mythic creature. While their officers ordered them to engage the enemy, they simply threw down their arms and ran back down the hill. As the soldiers fled, Jersey tuck its wings back to its sides and turns to face the group. Cyrus walked over to the devil and clasped hands with it.
"Thanks for the assist Jersey, but where is Holloway? I thought he was right behind you." As soon as Cyrus finished his sentence, the group could hear the faint sound of a galloping horse. Coming towards them in a cloud of dust is a headless black rider mounted on a jet black horse. On the sides of the horse were freshly beheaded British soldiers. The horsemen dismounted from his mighty stead and walked quickly at the others. He stopped a little way in front of Mingan, who still had his bow in his hand.
"Thanks for showing up at the last minute, Horseman," said Cyrus.
"My apologies, I was…preoccupied as you can see," the Hessian gestured towards his "trophies."
"Well, it's good that we're all here because I just read the mind of General Gage and he's sending in the Hesse-Kassel Jäger Corps, led by Wilhelm von Knyphausen," said Elizabeth who was using her telepathy to read the enemies mind.
"That is also Arthur Welham unit as well. Knowing him, he probably brought his gang as well," Cyrus gritted his teeth.
"It's a good thing we came; you are going to need assistance." The horseman unsheathed his sword and ax, ready to fight. Cyrus and his siblings all look down the hill. Only several yards separated them from their revenge. It has been five years since the Boston Massacre, since their mother's death. The more they thought about Arthur, the more intense their rage grew, especially Cyrus. The young American clenches his first so hard with the burning memory of that day that his hands started bleeding through the gloves. His eyes glowed yellow like the fire he conducts. Hannah clapped her hand on her brother's shoulder, cooling his rage.
"Don't worry, Cyrus; we'll get him this time. Just don't do anything stupid," she slugs him softly on the arm as she finished. The young lad chuckled and continued to look at the retreating soldiers. At the bottom of the hill, he could almost see him, the hessian Arthur. At the bottom of the foothill, the redcoats rushed back to their commander-in-chief General Gage. They all look to him for guidance on what they had just witnessed. The General simply told his men to head back to the ships on the river. Heading the vessel, the redcoats walked past the Jager Corps that was heading to Bunker Hill. However, this unit was not like theirs. This unit was comprised of not only mercenaries but monsters as well. Soon a young Jager approaches the British commander. Gage knew this man all too well. Making his way to the general, the Jager walks beside Wilhelm and the pair and discusses their plan of attack.
"Do you believe them to be here, Arthur?"
"Yes, they are here. Cyrus and his mob would not miss this chance of a reunion. It has been too long. Therefore, my unit will deal with them. I'll send you and the rest of the jagers if issues arise," Arthur said with a sneer. As the Hessian approached Gage, Arthur whistled a distinctive tune to gather his men. Out of the ranks of the Hessians came five monsters from different colonies in the Americas. The tallest is Tsu Kalu, a hairy humanoid from South Carolina with distinctive red eyes rumored to possess or read the minds of others.
He stood 10 feet tall and was covered in long white hair. He wore no clothes nor could speak. Next to him was another resident of the Carolina's called Basilisk. Basilisk is a humanoid reptilian who resides in swamps and bogs. He stands at seven feet and has green scaly skin with either red or orange eyes along with three-fingered webbed hands. His mouth had small serrated teeth and a forked tong for the smell. The smallest member is called Dover, namely, for the place, he was found. Dover is a humanoid with the skin of a rosy orange instead of sickly gray. He has a large head on a small, stick-like body.
Known to be bipedal, but it often travels on all fours or switches back and forth between the two modes of locomotion. It has eyes that glow, sometimes orange, sometimes green. Dover is described as a mystery, and many do not know where he comes from. The most bizarre was Snallygaster from Maryland. This odd creature is described as half-reptile, half-bird with a metallic beak lined with razor-sharp teeth, occasionally with octopus-like tentacles. It swoops silently from the sky to pick up and carry off its victims.
Finally, the last member was the Cherokee, the Death Cat. Cherokee is a massive feline around 500 pounds, four feet between the shoulders, six feet long (without the tail), and has a shaggy coat. He is known to terrorize local farmers and kill livestock.
Once all together, Gage gestured to the hessian and his team to him. The six soldiers all walk to the general and await their orders.
"Captain Welham, you and your men, deal with the rebels on the hill. I understand you have experience with these soldiers personally. I will leave it to you to finish your business. Am I understood?" Arthur saluted to the general and unsheathed and ordered a charge up the hill. Back with Cyrus and his siblings, Elizabeth finished reading the minds of Arthur, and the things she learned were not pleasant.
"So this is it, this is where it ends." Cyrus cracked his knuckles. "One way or another, we will give them a warm reception."
