Chapter 1: Hunted

I am living a nightmare I didn’t even dream about. For what? Because I exist? Because I deserve it? Or because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time? It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t change anything.

I was on my knees. I looked down at my best friend. He had blood streaming down the corner of his mouth.

I touched his pale cold skin and closed his faint eyes. I laid him down one last time. He wore a blue jacket with a blood stain in his right side where I stabbed him.

“Goodbye… Ryoku…” I said before standing up. The rain started to pour down and touched my body lightly. Each drop making me more drenched than before.

I heard splashing footsteps and the thunder rumbled. I kept on hearing the sirens from the damage I caused.

I looked at the person that was across the alley. It was Mika. She was drenched too.

She stared and lightning quickly appeared which blinded us for a moment. I released my monster form. Letting the black shiny armor surround my entire body.

I glared as my vision became a distorted blue before turning into a clear vision. I was the monster in a split second. I quickly jumped in the air and landed on the roof. I turned left and started to jump through destroyed buildings, leaving alone what was left of my life.

I could control this monster now, but I felt incomplete. It was like I had more in me. This monster could evolve, so I could evolve.

I kept on jumping while seeing cops pass by below me. They were trying to find as many corpses as they could.

After jumping continuously I was away from the city. I was by an ocean shore. He ran through the sand and went down to a sewer tunnel.

I panted while hearing the constant rumbling of thunder behind me. I took off my monster form as my armor turned to nothing.

I was left shirtless and only wearing the black shorts I had on before the unexpected raid. I fell on my knees and whimpered. I started to crawl further away from the exit of the sewer.

I finally got far enough where I felt safe. I sat down and took a deep breath. I leaned back and gulped.

I looked at the sewer’s exit and starred for a second. My vision began to fade and my body was starting to calm.

I heard a splash and looked up. I looked left quickly and saw a small frog jumping in the water stream. I looked and saw a bright light at the exit of the sewer system. I started to crawl out. I looked out and saw an empty shore. It was cloudy, but the sun pierced between them.

A loud horn went off. I flinched back and looked to the side. I saw a couple of boats arriving on shore. They were cargo from foreign trade.

I sat down and rubbed my head. I heard another sound. I looked up and saw multiple helicopters go into the city. I stood up and turned around seeing an army of helicopters flying on the roofs of large buildings.

It didn’t take long to figure out that they were trying to find me. I went back into the sewer system. I knew I had to hide, but I also figured I was a dangerous creature. Those were the words Tomoya told him before killing my parents.

I then saw small lights and it was the actual sewer system. The light was coming from the lamps from the wall.

I walked while hearing rats nearby squeal. I had to find a way to get out of Japan. And I need to do it soon.
