Chapter 1
Sunday 10 PM
A night in a cell was not uncommon for an assassin. There are many cases of missions going awry, and somewhere being captured is a possibility. In Usuf's case, being in a cell has its perks. One can contemplate one's mistakes and try to rectify what went wrong, even with a police station's noise.
While the officers are busy cataloging Usuf in their database, the Syrian assassin looks back on his arrest. Everything was going according to plan. He found a suitable location, had all the necessary explosives, followed the steps correctly, yet it all went foul. All he can do is think back to the one element he did not plan, that damn American. His face is ingrained in Usufs psyche. However, there is something about him that is vaguely familiar as if he and Usuf are connected.
"Hope you enjoy your stay here, cause where you are going, you are never going to see the light of day," says a police officer. The immediate comment breaks Usuf from his concentration, and he gives the officer a glaring look. As the officer walks away, Usuf goes back to his meditation. Outside the cell, two officers read yesterday's paper and debate over the hero in the article.
"Just who is this kid? I mean, how can a regular teenager take down an armed terrorist by themself?"
"I recognize that kid. He's Jonathan and Amy's boy," says an officer passing through.
"The west point cadet? What is his name again?" The officers pause and try to remember the name.
"If I remember correctly, they gave him the name Vincent Wolfe, but his real name was something Persian. Something like Amir Shahlavi." While the officers discussed the news, Usuf face went blank. He had thousands of questions racing throughout his head. How is Amir here? Where has he been all this time? Did he meet Darius?
As he thought about these questions, he looked down at his watch and saw a message pop up. It was from his contact who was waiting for him. Usuf knew he could not be late and began planning his escape. Going back to his watch, he twists the head until a small vile appears from the center. Taking the tiny glass, he flicked off the cap and swallowed the content. In mere minutes, he began to feel his heart race faster and had trouble breathing. Suddenly, his vision began to blur, and his eyes rolled to the back of his head. His body soon jerked onto the floor with a thud, grabbing the officer's attention. They quickly rushed to his cell and opened the door. One officer laid Usuf on his back while the other went to grab some mediation. As the officer desperately tries to keep the prisoner alive, Usuf's body stops jerking and freezes in place. His eyes widen, and his breathing stops. The officer places a hand over his mouth and slams his fist on the stone floor.
"Damn it!" said the officer. Just as the other officer returned with the medication, he saw that he was already too late.
"Crap, now what do we do?"
"Get an ambulance down here." As the officer placed the needles on the desk, the other officer grabbed a key from his pocket and unlocked Usufs restraints. After opening them, Usuf hands quickly shot upwards and grabbed the officer's neck. The officer tried calling out for help, but his pleas were cut off. Usuf soon began to squeeze tighter around the officer's neck. Suddenly, there is a voice coming from outside the dell. It was the other officer.
"Let him go, you bastard," said the officer aiming his gun at the terrorist. Usuf paid no attention to the officer outside and continued with his act. He snaps one officer's neck and grabs his gun. Before the other officer could react, Usuf fires off two shots at him, both dead center in the chest. With both officers dead, Usuf gets up from the floor and calmly walks out of his cell. He makes a slight detour to the armory before leaving. He grabs a few supplies: assault rifles, shotguns, explosives, radio coms, and other police gear. After catching all he needs, he goes out back to the garage and steals a police car. Knowing he did not have a key, he adapted exposed the wires underneath the wheel. With a few sparks from the wires, the engine of the car roared in the night.
"Back to business," said Yusuf. Placing his foot on the gas, he drove out of the police stationed and onto the city streets. Knowing he was free, he reached into his pocket, pulled out a phone, and dialed a number. After he finished, he placed it to his ear.
"Hello?" said a voice coming from the phone.
"The same spot?" replied Yusuf.
"How did you escape the police?" asked the voice. Usuf chuckled.
"I have my ways," he said.
"Central Park, be there," said the voice before hanging up. Placing the phone away, Usuf drove the car to his meeting destination. Parking his car just outside, he exits and enters the dark forest. Making his way further inside, he sees a bench with a light pole next to it. As he got closer, he saw a man in black sitting on the court. He is then given a yellow packet with the contents reading PROJECT RESSURECTION, taking a seat beside the cloaked man.
"We are still moving forward with the plan?" said Yusuf.
"Yes," said the man in black. He then hands Usuf another packet, this time filled with pictures and documents on his next assignment. As he opened the envelope, he pulled out a photo with a familiar face on it.
"I take it you know of him?" said the man in black.
"Very much. It has been years since we last met. Are you sure about this?"
"Play your part, and he'll do the same. From there, it will be too late. Agreed?" Usuf looked at the picture once more.
"Agreed."
