Late Nights
"I should be doing the laundry right now, what am I waiting for?!" Just a moment ago, Kim's eyes had caught a glimps of the time on her phone. It's already past ten in the evening.
For the past two hours now, Kim had been mindlessly in her bed and on her phone. Though, once her daze had been so rudely broken by the time, she has been struck with a bolt of adrenaline. "Ah! Shoot. Shoot. Shoot! Dad's gonna be home any second!" Kim jumps from her bed, darts through the small apartment, and into the living room. Where a large laundry basket filled to the brim with cloths, sits in front of the sofa.
Kim, eyes wide with panic, almost throws herself at the basket. Hurriedly, she draws handfuls of clothes out while nealing next to it. Attempting to, at least, have them sorted into piles.
Before Kim has the chance to complete her task. The sound of the front door opening freezes her in place. She wasn't fast enough.
Kim's father drowsily walks into the living room. A exhausted expression droops on his face like his facial muscles have lost their will to function. His greying brown hair and eye bags are magnified by the dim lighting.
When he finally realizes the cloths cast upon the floor and sees Kim kneeling in front of the sofa, looking at him like a deer in headlights, a confused groggy question escapes him, "Wh-what are you still doing up? Don't you have school tomorrow?"
"It's Friday, Dad. There is no school tomarrow." Kim responds. Relieved that her father is too tired to care about the clothes.
"Oh, ya, I guess you're right. Well, did you get any work done? Homework, that is," Kim's dad lets out a weary yawn and leans against the wall. Clearly, as a means to prevent himself from collapsing at any given moment.
"Ya, I got all of my assignments for science completed. I'll be finishing the rest of it tomorrow."
"That's good. That's good. Well, I think it's about time for me to hit the hay, and since you get to sleep in tomorrow, why don't you finish up those there clothes?" Kim's dad gives her a weak smile and then walks off to his room. Not to be seen again for the rest of the night.
