The Proposal
Gavin Klemens set across the table from his girlfriend Zahava Winnipeg. They have been dating for 3 years. She was an African American model, while Gavin was an accountant. They met when he was hired to file her income taxes. Gavin was incredibly nervous. They had a wonderful dinner of roast duck with mixed vegetables and homemade bread. They were now on to desert which was warm chocolate mousse with raspberries. Gavin refused dessert, yet Zahava ate hers slowly. "I thought maybe we could go London and meet my folks." He told her softly. She eyed him skittishly. "You've been acting weird all night. Now you're sweating like a pig. What's going on, Gavin?" She asked him firmly. "I-I... I bought you a ring... Would you... Consider marrying me?" He asked her firmly. She dropped her spoon on her plate, it was loud and rang out. Everyone at the restaurant stared at them. "Are you serious?" She asked him. He smiled nervously. "Yes, I truly am." He told her. "Like I would! I'm only with you because you're the most eligible bachelor. I told Lucinda that you'd want to marry me. You're a mama's boy. If it isn't bad enough I have to slap away the rumors of you being infatuated with your mother." She told him. Everyone in the restaurant stared at them. Zahava was causing a scene at his expense. "I-I thought you liked me." He told her hurt. "Like hell, you're a geeky little nerd. If it weren't for the fact that you had money, we wouldn't have lasted these three years." She told him as she threw her wine on him and stormed out. He closed his eyes humiliated...
