Chapter 1 - The beginning
I suppose, in order for you to understand this story I’ll have to explain from the beginning. Here goes nothing...
Little over a year ago I was living the perfect life, protected in my sunny, suburban bubble. Unsurprisingly, coming from a wealthier background did give me certain advantages in the high school hierarchy;I was blonde, popular and even had the star athlete as my boyfriend. Yet I was humble and focused on school work above all. My worst nightmare would to be for me to become the blonde, dumb, bitch people naturally assume I am before getting to know me.The stereotypical high school structure did not reside in my school though. Despite the school being huge and in the middle of a city, everyone was friends with everyone. Don’t get me wrong, girls still made bitchy comments and males still got into fights over who’s more masculine, but at the end of the day everyone got over these petty fights. However, the natural order and equilibrium of life had to balance out. Isn’t it that famous phrase that ‘all good things don’t last’.
So it comes down to love, isn’t it always the way ‘cliche sigh’, my boyfriend- James- grew distant over a few months before my departure. He wouldn’t tell me what was going on no matter how much I asked and after a couple of months of poking and getting nothing in reply I realised it wasn’t pressing a subject he clearly didn’t want to indulge in. As time went on James began to isolate himself, only making appearances for school and all games: he didn’t go out, rarely smiled and didn’t go to parties. To be honest, I didn’t really mind and I always stayed with him when he asked. Although I enjoyed parties they weren’t a necessity. However, on the weekend of my best friend Liv’s 18th birthday, James wasn’t very happy when I told him I was obviously planning on going even if he wasn’t. He grabbed my wrists and begged me with his sky blue puppy dog eyes. Fortunately, as fed up as I was, I was really good at controlling my temper and I tried to walk away saying I was going. He became aggressive, slammed my average sized body into the wall and the look he gave me was the furthest from the sweet boy that I had reluctantly and unexpectedly given my heart to. I wasn’t really one to open up, but he took the time to break down my walls. Suddenly, he was animalistic, he began to scream profanities at me, branding me as a slut and whore. Obviously, I didn’t let him see me cry, he wasn’t worthy. However, the look in his eyes shook my soul and sent shivers down my spine every time I recall it.
It wasn’t our first fight, but was the first time he scared me. You see, playing the sports he does, his frame towered over me but he never used that to threaten me. Not until then. I walked out, slamming the door unintentionally. I guess all those films I have watched made my flair for the dramatics more prominent in everyday situations. I drew on my smile and fixed my makeup, painted on my happy face. With my head held high, I pounced down the street. His family home ( even though his parents are never home) wasn’t far from the party so it wasn’t long. Skipping all the rather drunk, embarrassing stories of that night lands us to the evening. Where it all went downhill...
Between the blurred vision - due to my friend tequila - I could still make out my towering boyfriend as the herd of animals began to disappear. There he was, in all his glory, he still looked great despite the baggy eyes, swaying legs and the smell of booze oozing out of him. My feet began to move on their own accord, the alcohol dimming my fear of him. What a mistake. His hands gripped my shoulders to one, stabilize himself but also hard enough to leave bruises and show more physical evidence of me being property. His property. He attempted to drag me with him but my screams and fails seemed like the average drunk girl at a party so no-one noticed. Moreover, just to clarify I wasn’t weak, he was just ridiculously strong.
Luckily, I wasn’t too drunk but I was still tripping over the air every second. I finally managed to get him off and began to walk across the road despite his protests. I ignored them and kept walking to the other side thinking it was better to get away from him in this state. I guess after he figured calling me wouldn’t work he ran after me. He didn’t make it. I turned around to an ear shattering crash. His still body disfigured under the jet black car. You wouldn’t see it in the night. He was dead, no-one had any doubts. Screams as loud as a thousand newborn babies ricocheted through every corner of the streets.. Everyone heard it. But my scream was the loudest, it rang in everyone’s ears. I’m sure mine were bleeding. I don’t remember much from the night, I was dragged away, but his eyes, when he was hit, that sky blue pools boiling into the blackest oblivion, it wasn’t normal. I blamed it on me being drunk, I was delusional.
I moved away within the next two weeks. I stayed with my aunts. Everywhere I went I saw his eyes, I was reminded of him and it all went too much. I thought I could escape him.
But there he is, big blue eyes and all
