Chapter 1: Betrayal
Naomi’s Pov
“Are you fangirling over Matt Torres again?” Asked my nosy yet caring best friend, Emma.
“No! I’m telling you this for the thousandth time. I DO NOT LIKE HIM ANYMORE!” I stated.
You know that one boy in high school who everyone talks about non-stop?
That one that has those chocolatey eyes that stare into your soul and make you melt? That popular dude who dates cheerleaders and girls with body revealing clothes? That guy is Matt Torres. The guy whom I have had a crush on since 9th grade, but gave up on in 10th. For some reason, my friend still has hope and keeps shipping us.
Even though I don’t have a crush on him anymore, she always wants me be with him and honestly, it’s nice to know that my friend has high hopes for me.
We had a plan. The plan was for Matt and I to know each other, get married at age 22, have twin boys and twin girls at age 25, have 16 grandchildren, grow old together, have 64 great-grandchildren, live until age 95, and die at the exact same day, exact same hour, exact same minute, exact same second, while holding hands. It was a very detailed one too. We had stages and everything.
So now I bet you’re thinking “why don’t you like him anymore?” You see, that all changed when I met Jacob.
I met Jacob last year. He has almost every class with me. He is also one of those jocks who had every cheerleader crushing on him. Every time I saw a cheerleader have her eye on him he’d just pull me into a deep and passionate kiss that lasted for a few seconds and say “Don’t worry, I’m all yours” and then he would peck my lips as we would walk right pass by her. After all, he was my boyfriend.
“Daydreaming about Matt again, honey?” Emma said with a smirk on her face.
This time I was getting annoyed.
“Omg Emma, don’t you have a better life than think about that?” I said, irritated by her.
“Fine, fine, but get ready for school,” she said, mocking my tone while leaving my room.
Ever since her parents moved to Texas, she begged them to let her stay with her grandparents so that she wouldn’t leave this place. Can’t say I blame her though. We’ve been in this place for such a long time, ever since my dad was born here.
I wish he was here though. My parents died in a car crash when I was 3 years old, so I don’t even have memories of them. Just pictures of them when they were in high school.
“Naomi, honey! Time to go to school!” My Aunt Sherry called out.
Sherry was the coolest aunt you could ever dream of; she has like thousands of exes, she is very attractive, she owns 3 motorcycles, and goes clubbing like all the time. But she also takes care of me like I was her own daughter, which I don’t know how she does that.
“Sweetie you’re gonna miss the bus!” Sherry shouted, breaking me out of my thoughts.
“Ok Sherry I’m gonna go bye!” I said, practically flying from my seat as soon as Emma and I saw the yellow bus.

“Guess who?” A pair of big warm hands hovered above my eyes while the voice spoke.
“Uh… Thanos?” I said. “Nope. Try again.” “Barney?” I teased. “Haha very funny” Jake said, removing his hands off of my face.
“I swear I thought that!” I said while smirking. He looked as if he was about to say something but he was interrupted by his phone. He looked at the message, smiled, and typed something back.
“Who was that?” I asked, wondering why he was grinning so widely. That was the type of smile that he gave me before he told me he loved me. Nah, probably just his mother telling him something. I thought.
“Ok, well I will see you for our date tonight” He said before giving me a lingering kiss on the lips.
I loved the way his kisses made my stomach do cartwheels. It felt like a circus in my heart.
“Ok bye then” I said. “Bye I love you” He said. “Love you too” I said, and with that he was already walking away.
But wait a second. Where was he going? The bell was about to ring any second, and we had homeroom together. This kind of stuff has been happening for over a month now, where he would always get into homeroom late with his hair all messed up and his zipper unzipped.
Nah, he’s just clumsy. I like that he’s clumsy. It’s one of the things I love about Jake... I thought. I wondered why he would disappear, though. I saw a bottle of water on my desk and it had a note next to it.
“Here’s some water cause you thirsty for Matt Torres” Read the note. I chuckled at it. I’m not sure if it was from Matt himself or Emma, but whoever it was, they sure needed a reality check. Who in this dimension would want to date Matt Torres?
I mean, sure, he is hot, and I used to like him, but I have a boyfriend now. Matt never noticed me anyways. Jake is the first person other than Sherry and Emma to give me attention. In school, I’m basically an outcast. But with Jake, he made me feel like I belonged. Like I was special.
He wasn’t the type of boy who would cheat, unlike playboy Matt. Now with Jake, I didn’t have to go to the bathroom and cry and feel sorry for myself and wish that my parents were here.
Speaking of the bathroom, it’s surprising how I have the urge to pee even though I didn’t drink anything this morning. In fact, I was very tight! By the end of homeroom class I excused myself to go to the bathroom. On my way there, I heard a couple of sounds. It sounded like it was coming from the girl’s bathroom.
Huh, that’s weird. I thought, as I was thinking about going in there. If I went in there, I would probably see images that I don’t need in my system. You see, things like this happen way too many times, so it’s better safe than sorry.
“OH JAKE…” I heard a girl’s voice say. Immediately, I practically ran there to see what the Thanos was going on. He wouldn’t, right? Jake isn’t that type of guy! But then why did I hear his name being called out, then? I thought, as a wave of dread was washing over me. I knew that if I looked in there, I’d never be the same. But I just had to look, just to prove that Jake was a loyal boyfriend, just to prove that I was wrong.
With curiosity taking over me, I inched my way into the bathroom so I could see what the commotion was all about.
“Jake,” Samantha said. My heart stopped. It can’t be, I thought. That could be another boy whose name was also Jake. There were a few kids in this school whose name was Jake.
Then the guy sat up and started leaning Sam towards the wall. At this point, I could get a clear view of the boy’s face. The same boy who had his hair messed up every time he came into homeroom late. The same boy who made me feel like I belonged. The same boy who had been flirting with me ever since 10th grade, and asked me to be his girlfriend with a sheepish grin on his face. The same boy who swore to protect me from anyone who would hurt me. The same boy who was my boyfriend.
Hot rivers of angry tears streamed down my face as I screeched “ Jacob Mateo Santiago Ramirez!” and stormed out of there.
