"You cannot enter this contest, Lucy!" My mom yelled at my from the kitchen. I was coming down the stairs with my skateboard in my hand and my best friend next to me tearing down the stairs. She had her video camera and I was hoping that we could get out the door before my mom could stop us.

"Run, Zack!" I hollered. I jumped the bottom three stairs and I saw Zack running towards the door. I heard something drop from inside the kitchen. Before I landed onto the floor, I had out my skateboard under my feet. I landed on the hardwood floor and within seconds, Zack had opened the door and I was able to fly out of the door before my Mom could catch me. I jumped the stairs and rode down the sidewalk with Zack running behind me. I can hear my mom yelling at me, telling me that I wasn't going to do the contest that was next week. I ignored her. I was going to make it with or without her.

"We did it!" Zack cried making me laugh. I slowed down and got off my board in triumph.

"We passed the Sea Witch!" I laughed. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom. I just want to be able to do what I love and not have to worry about what my mom thought about it. She hated that I could get hurt and the people I was hanging around with. Sure there were druggies and people who drank but I wasn't that kind of girl. I didn't like smoking or drinking. Then again, I wouldn't mind trying a bit of Stinkweed.

"To the skate park now?" Zack asked as he walked beside me. I tucked my skateboard under my arm and give him a nod.

"After a couple clips of course."

"And running from cops." He smirked. He pushed his black rimmed glasses up the bridge of his nose and used his fingers to comb through his shoulder length black curly hair.

"So," I stopped at the crosswalk and pushed the button for us to cross, "Do you think Pink will be there?" I asked him. Pink being a boy who had pink hair and snakebites. He was the kind of boarder that would sneak his way into winning. Whether that would be cheating or getting his own way. For instance, last year, there was a good skate contest. There was a $500 dollar cash prize and a signature from Tony Hawk. He wasn't there but there was a Birdhouse board that was signed by Tony Hawk. Anyways, that was one of the contests I had entered. Illegitimately of course, which is why I never won. But it was really because of this jerk that I didn't win.

I was twelve, you had to be thirteen or older to enter the contest. I was pretty tall for being a girl and I liked it. So I forged my mom's signature and signed up. I met Pink and thought he was the coolest person in the world. He and I talked about tricks and what we were going to do in this contest. He called me a "gnarly chick" which made me smile. He was the most badass person ever. But what made me see that he would forever be my nemesis was when he went first, did all my tricks and took that $500 home with him.

"Thank you, Lucky Lucy." He winked as he walked out with the golden trophy and left me there in the dust.
